6 team list? He'd need to have at least 1 Canadian franchise available as I'm almost certain Buffalo would be on that list. I wonder which one he's cool with.

I get only 6 but what team is giving up full trade chips in summer if they don’t think he will re-sign? Anderson is going to have way more say on where he wants to go if flames want to get full price

Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, broadly speaking, are all more attractive markets than Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton.

But Ras is on the record for saying he hates Vancouver.

However I think they should be shopping Anderson now. It feels like a repeat of the Hanifin situation. Set a high price and trade him if someone meets the ask. Otherwise stick to the plan and play meaningful hockey down the stretch.

Andersson always felt more like the Lindholm situation to me tbh (without the pouting, that is). I think both sides want to extend, but Andersson probably wants more money than Conroy and co. are comfortable giving him.

Hopefully the Raz situation plays out like the Lindholm/Hanifin situation. Says all the right things but ultimately wants more than Conroy is willing to offer and gets traded for futures.
I don't see Conroy selling any of the vets who are under contract past this season at the TDL, since the flames are still in the playoff picture. The off season should be a different story though.

I can't see Andersson waiving to go to a non-playoff team.
I see no reason to trade Weegar, he is a good player on a good deal slotted in the right role.
Going to be one of the most interesting summers for the Flames. Especially with all the talk of them going after a top free agent.

Which is probably why the price won’t change much from now into the summer if he gets traded because the team he gets traded to will sign him long term.

I suppose it’s possible the list of teams Andersson is willing to waive his NTC for could increase in the summer. Teams that have been outside the playoffs may be able to pitch changes in their team and potential for them to turn a corner if he’s on the team. Obviously some don’t have any credibility to sell that to anyone (Buffalo comes to mind).
Too bad Buffalo is so bad because the flames and Buffalo would make good trading partners if Andersson would waive to go there. They need quality right shot defencemen (Andersson). The flames need a 20-25 year old center (Cozens). An equitable trade could be built around those pieces in a universe where Andersson would waive his NTC to go to Buffalo.

My bet is Andersson remains on the roster past the trade deadline and CP riots. But then he's traded in the summer or next year's deadline.

Especially after the Eichel situation. They tried to screw over his career after denying him the medical approach he needed.
That's crazy to hear if you're a young high performance athlete with a handful of years to set up substantive wealth for yourself. Why would you take the chance?

There are maybe three tradable vets. Backlund, Coleman and Andersson. None of them are expiring contracts this season.

Not trading vets THIS SEASON, as in Kadri, Coleman, Andersson. You know what I meant.

He doesn't have a choice - he can only submit a 6 team list.

You really think that a tweet from Friedman will prevent teams from inquiring on players they have interest in?

Uhhhh, who said his contract is a dealbreaker?
It’s easier to move guys in the summer, opening up more suitors. It doesn’t disrupt a team, they bring the player into the fold for training camp etc…
It’s ridiculous to think waiting until the summer is a deal breaker.

I don't think Friedman says this stuff out of nowhere though..
He's one of the most connected media around the NHL and is typically one of the less clickbaity one's as well.
It's probably another GM reiterating what Conroy's messaging has been to them.

The Flames media apparatus have been putting it out there constantly. Don't pretend it's just ONE Friedman tweet we're talking about. They've literally put out to the GM channels they're NOT taking offers on Kadri and Andersson.
Conroy himself CONFIRMED that he let the league know he's not taking offers on them.
Quote:
SPORTSNET: After letting the hockey world know that Nazem Kadri, Rasmus Andersson and MacKenzie Weegar aren’t available, are you still getting many calls from other GMs?
CRAIG CONROY: Not many calls over the break, but you kind of know what teams are maybe looking, and you’re talking to those teams a little bit more. There are some teams you’ve talked to that are in wait-and-see mode. Maybe that will change in the next week.
|
It's a strange strategy, if they're actually taking offers on them. Could just say NOTHING at all about those players.
But instead, they want to gaslight everyone into pretending this team is a playoff contender, and that this road trip will decide anything either way.

They are not gas lighting anything, the team is a playoff contender right now.
