With 16m in cap I doubt we could afford both without clearing salary the other way.

I dont think Sharangovich holds immense value. Hes a 3rd line winger. Farabee is pretty comparable, albeit sharangovich is older, signed longer, more expensive but has hit 30 goals once.
I think it would end up being something like pachal/sharky/pospisil + 1st + honzek for Cozens.

Exactly. Suniev is shaping up to be quite the steal as far as 3rd round picks go. He would be the centerpiece of the trade with Pachal and the draft pick as the adds.
But, I am of the opinion that the Sabres do not need a C to replace Cozens. They already have Thompson, McLeod, Kulich, and Krebs on the roster (Kulich being the most recent promotion) and Ostlund (20) and Helenius (18) are going to be looking for promotions next year.
They can trade Cozens out, promote Ostlund, then trade Zucker or Greenway and promote a winger. Pachal is an upgrade over Gilbert and maybe over Jokiharju too.
The sticking point for me would be the draft pick. With Cozens low performance and big contract I do not think he is worth Suniev, Pachal, and a 1st.

It's Huberdeau the sequel.
Just don't.

Is there a reason Pachal is being mentioned in these trade proposals as a fairly substantial piece? In my opinion he has no trade value. Might be worth a 5th or 6th round pick at deadline.

I like Cozens. Hopefully we still find a way to get it done.

Cozens aka Cousins aka Targaryen incest? Checks out.
Whoever wouldn't waive, I'm mad at you.

So IF that were the case which player that has no trade protection makes sense for Buffalo to want in a trade for Cozens?

Of course he has value, there's a reason he's the only guy in the bottom 4 whose played every game and hasn't rotated out like the others. Is he the main part of a bigger trade? No. But he's steady, an ideal bottom pairing guy, whose a right shot and has size whose signed to a good contract for the next 2 years. Treliving paid a 4th for Fantenberg, Forbort, a 3rd for Gustavson at the deadline. I'd rather have Pachal than any of those guys.

I've been less than thrilled with most of the 'available' players; so, awesome.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say how about Robert Thomas of the Blues?

That would be amazing, but I can’t see the Blues trading him. He’s their franchise C.
I’d love to be wrong though

Colorado?
They perhaps made a "blunder" in bringing in Mittlestadt?
Perhaps they are looking at getting rid of him and/or bolstering their lineup now that have traded Rantanen away?

Can you imagine if it's Rantanen on the cheap? I'm fairly in the don't do it camp but wouldn't that be something

Blunder? I can only think of The Canucks moving the wrong guy, or the Preds with whatever they did . Kraken and Chandler Stephenson or Kakko? But Kakko seems to be re ignited in Seattle.
Maybe Rantanen but that's Brad Richards down to the Flames or Rangers level of stuff.
Can't imagine NJ made a blunder in any fashion. They're fine.
Off the cuff on Rantanen. What's the draw to CGY for him and signing here? Playing on front of Wolf? Parekh? Playing with Kadri? I honestly don't know. Iean of he came here and signed I'm down, but what's the draw? The new barn?
Oh and the perennial Blunder that is Buffalo. But that's a much much larger can of worms to try and detangle.

My read on that snippet is that "not left field" means it's a name that's been rumoured or out there already and it's just a surprise that it might actually happen. And blunder being a young player on the move which might come back to bite that team.
Cozens makes the most sense still, even though I can't imagine what the cost would be without Andersson going the other way.

If it's rantenan, it's probably the flames being part of a 3way trade and eating some salary for a pick.
