I did. That doesn't mean I don't get info about the rest of the league though. I just said I had heard nothing about Byfield myself.

They won't move Byfield.
On the .1% chance he's moved, he's the centerpiece for a massive asset. Not for a package of good-ish stuff (Kadri + pospisil etc).
I can't even think of a guy available that would make sense for Byfield to be included on.

He probably has everyone in the NHL on the trade block.
GM's talk about everyone, doesn't mean they are available. Anyone can call LA and ask about Byfield doesn't mean he is available.
It is like Conroy saying whenhe calls teams and asks hey would you ever consider moving this guy?
That is probably how he gets his names.

I mean their yearly goal is to lose to Edmonton in the first round? That would be a poor move but they need to do something IMO

I mean I’d be shocked if Byfield moved.. I did ask and was told they had not heard the name as available so idk.

The issue for LA is they traded young depth that can produce and have a 36 year old goalie to show for it.
Trading Byfield is not doing something, it's doing something stupid.

I guess my reasoning on huberduea 50%, is this :
The cap is going up. Calgary is not going to be a cap team for the next couple of years, anyway. That eats up about half of the potential cap issues created by a trade like this. It does eat a retention spot.
The higher cap would probably be about 3 firsts value.
Huby would be one of calgarys top assets at half price.
I'd pay 3 firsts for byfield, without actually losing a first, and being just money.
Profit.

Nothing new unfortunately, only that the deal isn’t completely dead.
Something halted the progress that was made, which could be a number of things. I just was told it wasn’t a rental move.

Oh that tells me it's Cozens. Last reports were the Flames finally got Buffalo to get some dialogue rolling and everyone and their dog has been saying watch CGY and Buffalo, not just our boys here on the forum.
It has to be close. Real close. Paulie's gonna have an aneurysm.
I bet the trade crosses the finish line by the 7th of March.

A Cozens trade isn't some new development. Seravelli and others have been saying Calgary has interest in him for months.

I can't get my head around a Cozens deal that doesn't include Andersson. But I can't imagine Rasmus waiving to go there.
And in fact that could be what caused the deal to die, as has happened with other Buffalo deals: the player won't go there.

I don’t think it is Cozens, I think it is NJ, centred on Anderson for Nemec

NJ has Hamilton and Pesce on the right side. Do they really want to spend the assets that it would take to get Andersson just to put him on the 3rd pairing?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Cozens and the snag is one of our player not willing to waive to go to Buffalo.
The "white horse" gif from sec would make sense in that context.
I like Cozens. Hopefully we still find a way to get it done.

Based on nothing but team needs... new jersey has been looking for an upgrade on Haula at center, and I could see them wanting Kadri for a playoff run, and Kadri saying no.
New Jersey could easily overpay with Nemec plus.

Maybe it’s Weegar.. He has roots in Ontario and would bring immense leadership to Buffalo.
Can see Flames moving Weegar and giving Andersson similar contract to stay?
/extend?

I know we are focused on Andersson for Cozens...but I'm beginning to wonder if the Sabres might also have interest in the RH Pachal as part of a package.
Steinberg made mention last week on Flames Talk that he's heard that more teams have been asking about Pachal's availability too.
Flames would have to add a fair bit still but a guy that could potentially play 2nd pairing RH d and play on your PK is also what the Sabres kind of need, maybe even more than an offensive d-man considering they have Dahlin, Power, and Byram as offensive LH guys.
And if the winds have changed on the Flames thinking an Andersson contract gets done...then I think you are potentially looking at moving Pachal since you need to open up spots for the young RH dmen coming up.

So what would need to go with Pachal to land an underperforming, high draft pedigree, young RHS C? Could you dangle Suniev and a draft pick to round out the deal? At 20 years old, Suniev could join the Sabres roster pretty quick, especially if they trade away Zucker and/or Greenway at the deadline.
