That said, I expect the Flames to start making some big moves soon. They won’t stay a low-cap team forever—we're currently in the "retooling" phase, and they won’t let it drag on indefinitely. Big moves could keep us in the status quo (mid...) as these older guys drop off.
For this team to be a contender and break out of the mid over the next decade we need three things:
-Wolf to keep doing what he's doing
-Parehk to become a legit #1 D
-Develop some form of dynamic offense that can get us in the top half of league scoring. By committee, hitting a homerun trade or having some guys in the system hitting their max ceiling (e.g. Coronato becoming a consistent 40g guy)

Finding a Kopitar, O'Reilly, Point, Bergeron type with later picks or later rounds.

Now I'm really curious what this trade was that Conny had all lined up. Must've been close. I cannot help but think it was Cozens. But is that bigger than Frost/Farabee? I guess that depends on the rest of the moving parts.
I can't help but think that the trade isn't dead if names aren't being shared either. Could be a complex situation.

Money could be the driving factor, it often is. You never know though, he could be one of those people that likes space, playing in a market where hockey is #1, and maybe prefers Canada. There are some players like that.
Honestly, if I was an NHL player, I probably would have warm climate high on my list, but if I had to live in a colder climate, I would much rather live in a western Canadian city for lifestyle purposes.
Or maybe... he has intel that Makar is going home after his contract.

Rantanen seems like a great add... if you have a play driving center for him to ride shotgun to.
May be jumping the gun on the rebuild. We saw how that worked out before.
I also think he would have a huberdeau-like trajectory on this team.
Keep going young and focus on centers.

I kind of wish I hadn't known anything at all now....c'mon Sec we need a bit more of a leak here of what fell apart.
As an aside I also want no part of Rantanen, that contract has Huberdeau written all over it.

I'll take our guys word.

He's been right more than the CP guys. And that's no slight on our wonderful CP informants.

We will see what happens next year, we don't have enough talent to be competitive outside for being in the mix for that 8-10 range, which likely means playing Wolf a lot.
If Conroy believes the right approach to a cup is going back to the Kipper/Iggy years that is cool. Play Kipper 70 plus and ride a superstar upfront (which we don't even have now) to fight to get 7th or 8th.
|
If this team added a superstar then they'd be fighting for higher than 7/8.
They're already a 7/8 team without one.

Why do I get the feeling that NJ 1st rounder will be dealt by the 7th?

As far as I understand we are talking about the OT winning goal by McDavid in the championship game.
Which was passed by Marner to McDavid, thus earning Marner the primary assist.
Makar was not in the corner. He rimmed it from the point to Marner, thus earning Makar the secondary assist.

Still a good player but not one you throw the kitchen sink at, whoever signs that contract is going to regret it.
|
You have a lot of terrible takes lol...it was a bump back by Crosby who wasnt even on the ice for the goal. You make it sound like a tap in.

This team has played one game with Bahl/Zary since the big trade and they beat the Caps on the road with Vladar in net. Adding a top forward certainly puta them in divisional conversation.

1 superstar isn't going to make the difference. Like I said we had that with Kipper and Iggy and it was a grind to get in.
The current team has to really outwork the other team to get wins.

If it brings in a young asset, I'm not too bothered if they move a pick or two. The more I dig into this draft the more I understand that post pick #20 the value drops a fair bit.
I love the draft and this is like the first draft in maybe 6 or 7 years where I'm not totally enamoured with the draft class . I'm not seeing many gems outside of round 2 and so on.

There was almost some big news today but I’m told it’s not happening now, not sure what the hang up is or was sadly. Can’t be shared with me.
I don’t have any names to share but was told it was as big or bigger than the trade with Philly.
Maybe that was part of Sec’s gifs, not sure but his info could be better than mine on this one.
|
So it could still happen?

They all take place in the evening I think you’re right. Though last year the trade deadline was an obvious exception.
Also my guess? He’s a little older but the Habs are taking calls on RHC Jake Evans
