I don’t know if it’s my own old age or the pandemic but I notice that more and more people will not shut the fata up. The unnecessary details about everything, always. The worst is when you know it’s coming. Like a trip to the grocery store where the machines didn’t work. This is a 10 second story tops but then it starts.
|
Totally dude. Keep your stories short and they better be funny or STFU. I don't want to just listen to a pointless boring story or complaining.
Also - and I realize there are many guilty over the past few days here - but I have a "don't tell me about your dreams" rule in my house. Even for my kids. IDGAF about anybody's dream ever. "Check out this story about a thing that never happened!" No, thanks.

That’s harsh. It’s my nephew with a status report on his relationship. Wedding was called off due to family bull$h1t. He may be asking for advice as his family is a &h1t show. I expect he’ll call this afternoon

My wife’s sisters text her that they want to talk so she phones them - and the long distance bill lands on my lap.

Oh yeah! They even use a land line….for hours. I shouldn’t complain, I get some quiet time when they are chatting.

Apparently it is now seen as good practice to text ahead of a call.

-Are you free for a call?
-Yes.
Silence, no incoming call. You asked a question, I answered. Do you want me to call you? But that isn’t what you asked. I’m going to bed now, do I have to text you to tell you I am no longer available for a call?

It’s not even really a saying or slang like May 2-4. May long weekend naturally gets shortened to may long.
May Long and August Long both roll off the tongue. No one would say September long. It’s easier to say Labour Day. Victoria Day isn’t a particularly memorable holiday either. Easter, Labour Day, family day are all much better known and identifiable holidays.
Fun story but may 2-4 isn’t just called that because of a flat of beer. In the olden times Victoria Day was on May 24th because that was the queens birthday. May 24th. It was called May 2-4 long before it got co-opted as a slang for drinking.

Pft no way man that’s the start of black fly season in Ontario! It’s miserable outdoors for weeks.

What time period do you believe this term came from Ontario in. May Long is still the start of summer on the Praries despite the weather and has been for at least 40 years

Yeah it's definitely been called May Long by the vast majority of people since the late 80's, can't speak to before that. CliffFletcher is older than most here, I believe, though.
