It's 7 games, and the advanced stats suggest he's been just fine but unlucky.
Time will tell as the sample size grows.
No one will base much on 7 games.

I’m not worried. No chance rantanen picks the flames anyway.

When it comes to Toronto I am very well connected. Mitch Marner is going to test free agency, that doesn't mean he is closing the door in Toronto but he is going to take a look. If I am wrong feel free to give me the gears. I am sharing what has been shared with me, you can ignore it if you like. For those that appreciate when I do share something I am happy to do so.

I try to do this when it is an opinion thing and not a source thing. I should have said I have heard from a good source in my original Marner post.

See. I was speaking specifically of dissentowner, not posters in general. He is generally posting what he's hearing not opinions or guesses. Again, I was staying I'm shocked at how connected he is in the hockey world relative to say insiders on networks and other connected guys.
No one else is slavery sure that mcdavid and marner are waking their teams.

Of course he's going to test free agency. He'd have to be 200 pounds of stupid not to.

My unconnected guess is that with the cap going up both Edmonton and Toronto make huge offers and the players stay where they are.

Right now we have a projected $34M in cap space.
We have to sign these RFA:
Coronato
Frost
Zary
Bahl
Some here think they will get bridged or just wont get paid on long term deals. I am of the opinion that that they will be paid and on long term deals.
They haven't even talked CBA yet apparently the NHLPA isn't ready to start so we don't know what the asks are but if contract length comes into play this could be our last chance to sign them long term.
Coronato, Frost and Zary should take up 21 plus in cap space. Depends what you think of Bahl but I wouldn't be too keen on signing him super long probably around a 3–4-year deal at 4M.
We still would have to sign Wolf at some point and this off season might be our only chance to do a 8-year deal. They also want to sign Andersson apparently, he likely wants to double his salary to say 8M a season.
Just signing our own RFA's to deal takes out of any big-name free agent with 10M in cap space. You also don't want to Treliving the team and have them capped out July 1st,
Not sure what Steinberg is talking about, forget the player not being a fit here we don't have the money. Seems like it is something he wants to see and is trying to speak it into existence lol.

If he was a center then I could see it but it doesn't make any sense for this organization to spend big on another veteran winger. Besides I don't see him wanting to sign in Calgary as the team isn't a true contender and it's just not a desirable market for UFA's right now especially with the current arena situation although that will change.

I don't know about San Joses arena situation, but it probably makes the most sense if he wants money and a chance to compete in the future.
They also have a bunch of young assets to move to make the team better for next season. Plus a top 2 pick this year most likely.
What looked like a dire situation can quickly turn around when you get a #1C.

I would rather be in San Jose position than Chicago. I think they might be one of those scorched earth teams that will make it through to the other side. They drafted Dickinson last year, if they can add a Schaefer, they will be setup really well on the back end. I think they are at the stage where the can spend to help better slot some of their players.

Apparently Bob McKenzie said the same thing about Marner on Sunday night: https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/...to-free-agency
It tends to be rare for insiders to report something as definitively as dissentower this far from free agency, unless the player makes the statement. They're all probably hearing the same thing from Toronto team guys that Marner is going to test free agency (but they still want him!), but then when they call the agent he is probably telling reporters that Marner would still like to re-sign with the team and only will test free agency if they can't work something out.
In this case, it certainly sounds like Toronto team guys are leaking this info whether just idle chatter or intentionally to put pressure on Marner's agent to accept whatever offer is on the table.

The idea that this team could become a cap team simply by signing the players we currently have is nightmarish.

The Pacific is slowly shaping again being California team running the show. All 3 have #1 centers, Anaheim and San Jose upgraded their goaltending and have cap space.
We have our Kipper, but we really need some luck to get our Jarome in a center version.

I mean it's not all too bad. It could be Lindholm, Tanev, Zadorov and Hanifin taking up those slots lol.
It will be a pain for a season or so but the cap will be $104 million the following season, and Backlund comes off the cap. That cap space tho is likely eaten by the Wolf extension.
If San Jose and Anaheim push us down the standings next season maybe we luck into a McKenna he is not a center but we still need elite 1st line talent.

Hard to imagine Calgary already projected to be close to cap with this team.
I'm not sure why you'd be offering Frost a long term deal at this stage. Unless it was at a very low number. He's looked OK, but not long term OK.
If Calgary is going to be a capped out team with little star power, welcome to the mushy middle.

Lol Friedman rumor that the Schenns want to play together somewhere. Seems to have us written all over it- over the hill but former cup winning 2 way C and a big strong LD.
That would be a terrible outcome.

Already there. Look at the standings. Even with Conroy "helping the team out" it's likely we will just miss the playoffs.

That's not necessarily true.
If Toronto offers him a sufficient salary AND the 8th year, it is arguable he could be 180 pounds of stupid to not accept that.

Very close to zero chance of that happening.
Maybe you haven't been keeping up with current events.
Conroy is either going to get a centre or deal away depth guys. Until that doesn’t happen you have nothing to worry about.
