Colorado refused to pay Rantanen (or anyone else) more than Nathan,(per Freidman).

MR clearly wanted 13 or more from them.

He (ie; his agent) was sure it would get done knowing the cap increase is coming, but Sakic and company drew that line in the sand.

Thats why MR was shocked when the deal happened and...here we are.

He still might sign with CAR but its gonna have to happen within a week really....though Im sure the Canes are working contingencies all over the place. If they retain 50% the club acquiring is on the hook for 2.3 for the season.....every single contender can fit that in if they need to.

Yeah, he wasn’t injured in the fight. Weird that people are assuming a groin injury could come from a fight.

Tkachuk is great for the game, and the way he embraced the 4 Nations and understands that NHL players are in the entertainment business is a big reason why the tournament was such a success.

But it was really selfish of him to stay in the lineup with an injury that serious. Yes, he got to grimace for the cameras and prove what a passionate player he is. But it’s beyond arrogant to feel you’re better at less than half effectiveness than the next guy up in the lineup. Can’t-skate Tkachuk taking up a roster spot hurt his team.

Rantanen wants to get paid. If the Hurricanes don’t pony up the biggest deal, he’ll go somewhere else.

This was always the risk with the trade, and the reason COL were shrewd to get value for Rantanen while they could. A 26 year old 80 pt forward, a #3C, and a 2nd is a hell of a return for a rental.

Equal contracts, would you guys rather have Marner or Rantenan? I think a few months ago I would of said Rantenan, but I'm not so sure now..
(I dont actually think we have a serious shot at either)

How do you know all this stuff with such certainty? Even the biggest, professional insiders don't have as much conviction and confidence as you when big stars come up, lol.

I think when most posters make a statement, you can add "IMO" before such statement.

CJ released his updated trade board this morning. 43 names, not one Flame.

Makes sense. I’d be fine if the Flames do nothing more than act as a third party, use some retention spots to eat salary and pick up some draft picks.

Most players will say that at NHL level, Monahan for example. In hindsight it was beyond dumb when you've got Connor in the press box.

By all accounts the Flames are open to making deals but they do not fit either the buyer or seller mold. It sounds like if a deal can be made similar to the Flyers deal the Flames will be all over it and it also sounds like Conroy will be scouring the bargain bin at the 11th hour to maybe secure some depth on the cheap.

If anything big happens for Calgary next week it is likely a move like Cozens or someone similar which likely means nothing big will happen

Rantanen has been terrible in Carolina. It will be interesting to see what type of production he has outside of Colorado. Could be a big overpay for someone. Maybe it's just a big adjustment for him but I'm definitely less confident in him today than I was a month ago.

Caught the first clip on Flames talk where Pat does state that if Rantanen makes it to July 1 he thinks the Flames will put forth a big offer. That makes absolutely no sense to me
