If he can score 13 goals in the next 20 games he will beat the record in the same amount of games it took Gretzky.
If he continues at his current scoring pace this season he would do it.

I can’t quite decide who’s a worse person. Ovechkin or Gretzky? A close one but I’m going to lean towards Gretzky just because Ovechkin has to say what he says so his family doesn’t die, I presume.

Wayne is worse. Not defending Ovechkin at all, but at least he’s buddies with his home country’s dictator. Wayne is buddies with a dictator from another country. I realize that Wayne is a dual at this point, but the guy was the face of Canadian hockey for a long time and was the GM of our Olympic team multiple times.
Walter is rolling over in his grave at this point. #### Wayne Gretzky

I'm sure any father would be proud of what Wayne-Gretzky-as-their-son did.
Walter is rolling over in his grave still enjoying all the great and wonderful Wayne has accomplished/done for the overall community.
Let's not bring theoretical family opinions into political talk.

People in Brantford are petitioning that everything that’s named after Wayne, be renamed “Walter Gretzky Drive” and “Walter Gretzky Arena”.
Obviously not the same thing as what I said, but his hometown feels the same way that a lot of Canadians feel. That’s all that my point was

Years back I worked with someone from Brantford, and she told me that Walter was more revered and had done more for the city than Wayne ever did. Changing names in this case may be just as much a reflection of that than politics.

It's wild that OV missed 1.5 seasons due to lockouts and several shortened Covid seasons... He should have had this record a couple of years ago

It’s better to just skip this stuff. Gretzky played in the WHA where he scored 46 goals (not theoretically, actually did) and had a lockout too.
