Seems like they have no solid long term plan. It’s a day to day thing with them. The reports of him being interested in more middle 6 players and teams not wanting future based deals. Pretty disappointing to hear.
Might not even be a GM issue because now it’s a 3rd one. Could just be an upper management and ownership issue in the organization. 2004 blinders in 2025.

Make a pitch for Bennett, Or offer sheet him. Can afford to pay him, and hes the type of player who would thrive here.

Never heard anything about a fondness for the flames from him. I think he's moved on and so should we. Although, it would be nice to have someone like him in the fold.

If we could replace Kadri with Bennett at similar price point, I would be all over that, not sure the player would want to try again though.

The now or the before ?
Multiple people have now said they want to sign Andersson. A declining player getting a 30 plus contract while we have so many right shot players in the pipeline.
The constant reports and publicly talking about a right shot center and being linked to another declining player like Cozens constantly.
Now saying the road trip decides how the team will approach the deadline. If you have a plan a road trip shouldn’t decide what you do.

What we do at the deadline and the road trip is just about whether they try to sell some pieces or make some minor upgrades. Doubt they are trading any first round picks.

I’m not sure that there’s enough data to conclude that Cozens, at his age, is declining. Andersson might not yet be declining either (though a new long-term contract should take into account the likelihood that he will decline before it ends), but all of the Flames’ RHD are playing with partners who are slotted way too high.
Can you say a little more about why you have a problem with them looking for a right shot centre? It’s the organization’s most glaring weakness by a country mile. But if they are chasing Cozens, I hope it’s a hockey trade with only veteran players going the other way (and definitely not Andersson for Cozens unless Buffalo adds a lot - I think we’re both of the opinion that Cozens is not a first line centre).

So the choice is to be buyers if we're in the race or to stand pat if we're not.
Why does this feel like the same old?
Maybe it will work this time though right? Right?!

Offer sheets are for RFA's, not UFAs. If the team was actually interested in him, they would wait till the summer.

Well being publicly desperate for a right shot center for one is embarrassing. Targeting a player like Cozens is just as bad when everything shows he’s not good. It’s like when Treliving was obsessed over Hamonic and pretty much nuked any chance we had of being competitive.
You don’t trade for 1st line cup winning elite centers. You draft them. Seems like something Edwards and the boys can’t grasp. Playing kipper 70 plus games every year to make 8th isn’t a recipe for success.
It really is an ownership issue with this team.

Friedman on HNIC says the Canes have offered Rantanen a deal in the 9 digits. Rantanen hasn't said yes or no and told the team he is processing everything.
Trade speculation is ramping up on Rantanen. Teams are waiting to see and are holding their best assets in case Carolina decides to move him.
Teams have talked about uniting the Schenn brothers maybe in separate trades
Seth Jones wants to go to a contender but the difficulty is that the contenders don't have the cap space to take him on.

That would be interesting. Brayden makes 6.5 for 3 more seasons after this one and has 32 points in 56 games. Luke is under 3 million for 1 more season after this one, but has struggled a lot in Nashville.

A prediction: Seth Jones to Dallas via Calgary.
Flames get 2x 2nds.

I just can't see the flames holding heavy cap for that long.
Especially because they're trying to speed run this retool.

To hold a part of Seth Jones contract for five more years Flames need to get more than 2 2nd round picks to make it worth it.

Conroy has been clear this is not a scorched earth rebuild since the day he took over.
Just because you don't seem to listen to what he says or don't agree with that approach doesn't mean they don't have plan. They haven't made any short term or day to day decisions since Conroy has been in charge.
They've been very clear they aren't going to make short term trades, but are going to try to acquire U-25 players they think can help them in the short and long term. Moving a late first for a piece like Cozens fits into their plan.
In terms of the approach to the trade deadline not being determined then that makes sense with the pending UFAs they have.
They've been pretty clear now they weren't looking to move the veterans this year (Kadri, Backlund, Andersson, Coleman, etc), so that's not really new. I'd love for them to move Andersson but that appears to not be on the table because they want to assess his contract ask first.
Doesn't mean they don't have a plan - just means we don't agree with the plan.
In terms of the others at the trade deadline I think the plan speaks more to just not having valuable assets.
If you're in a playoff spot as of the trade deadline it would make no sense to move Vladar for a 4th and Hanley for a 5th. Might as well ride it out if you're getting non premium assets back for pieces that provide depth for the playoffs.
The only thing that has potentially changed the plan is Wolf. I think they expected to have a top 10 and probably even top 5 pick with the roster the Flames had going into the season.
But the problem is Wolf almost single handedly can prevent that, so you do have to rethink your plan on how to build a roster a bit because you can't count on top 5 picks even with the second lowest salary hit in the league as long as he's playing like this.
