+ Ukraine not ever be allowed to join NATO
+ Ukraine not even allowed to have an army to defend itself (so Russia can re-invade at a later date).
Trump's plan on ending the war is to satisfy all of Russia's wants. Sounds like a complete surrender for Ukraine. This certainly feels like a really dark period we are heading into.

I don't see how you can discuss these 2 teams and not bring outside factors into the discussion.

100% it has added to the intensity, you dont get those fights without it. Newsflash! 72 wasnt just about hockey.

As for the game - one thing I happened to notice is how fixated McDavid is on the puck.
For instance, he gets back to play defence, and for whatever reason, I focused on what he was doing in the defensive zone. I didn't do it all game, but for two or three shifts in the game, I didn't see him look behind him even once. Just moving and looking at the puck carrier only. Every other center, defencemen, goalie and forward (that I noticed) were always looking around to see where everyone else was on the ice. You take quick looks to see if someone is sneaking behind you, etc. Not McDavid.
This is something I never really looked at before with anyone. It just became weird to me that he never looked behind or around even once. Just absolutely weird to me. This will be something I actively look for now with him and other players. I have never noticed anyone else NOT taking peaks around them for such long periods of time in the defensive zone before. Anyone else notice that?
Sounds like I am blaming him for something - I am not. He was not the reason Canada lost, and in fact, I felt dirty cheering for the goal he scored, but I cheered it. I don't really think he did enough against Sweden, but that was a nice goal he scored for Canada yesterday. It sounds like I am just trying to blame him for something, or just because he is an Oiler that I am trying to have a dig at him. I honestly can't remember watching a player in the defensive zone ONLY be interested in the puck and not at what the players behind him were doing, even though there was someone else every time defending the puck carrier (it is normal to be hyper-focused on the puck carrier when it is you specifically defending against him). Anyway, just a small observation. No goals were scored and not even any real chance was created for Team USA during my observations - I was just dumbfounded by how little he looked behind him while he is defending.

Politics has always played a role in hockey. Russia/Canada and US/Russia US/Canada. A theme is Russia has always been the evil one but Donald Trump in a few weeks has changed everything.
The NHL is also heavily titled republican. If you don’t like your anthem being booed be a better person and don’t vote in Donald Trump pretty simple.

Watched periods 2 & 3 at a sports bar in Chicago. The place was packed and showing the game on 90% of the screens, also had the sound for the game turned on throughout the bar. Lots of people in USA jerseys and most people were there to watch the hockey.
Sucked not having a chance to sing "God Save the King" in a bar full of Yankees, but bodes well for hockey as a sport here in the US.

Hockey doesn’t affect the politics but politics is definitely affecting the hockey.

In a somewhat contrived way sure.
I don't buy that there is any legit heat between these two teams. The Tkachuks are expert marketers and were texting before the game to set up the fights.

It's actually very easy. A bunch of us have been doing it without any difficulty whatsoever.

And JT Miller is like the guy that goes to the bar and tries to pick a fight with the biggest guy in there to show how tough he is.
and gets dummied.

It's fine to have a bit of political discourse alongside the games to spice things up, I just think the nazi talk is taking it overboard.
None of these people are Donald Trump, nor did they conspire with him or give him their blessing to engage such lunacy.
That kind of venomous posting while it probably brings some people a sense of pleasure or catharsis (because they're coming in with pent up anger and need somewhere to dump it) is so patently stupid and generalizing to me and doesn't make sense.
At least aim the insults at the right people if you are going to throw out these (until recently) taboo words in such a casual manner.
It just feels like a slippery slope and it's how you create a divide with our neighbors online and the lack of resistance in going there is a bit sad.
Sports are an excuse for a lot of behavior cause emotions ride high but I don't think its an excuse for this level of manure.

Is booing covered under Freedom of Speech?
Or is it more of a sound, than speech per se?

It's a boobs chant.
It's the nation with the most boobs per capita (men and women) on earth! We're just showing our recognition.

This is a crucially important point: one that actually is relevant in the world of hockey fandom in addition to the world of politics.
This war that Trump is inflicting on US allies is an ideological one in addition to an economic (and potentially military) one. There are a huge number of Americans who are not only our ideological allies in that war, but are actually on that war's front lines (and we're probably in the metaphorical trench right behind them).
Canada's position is strengthened by maintaining ties to our ideological allies, and weakened by lumping them in with Trump and his ilk. If anything, we should be making connections with left-leaning organizations in the USA to help them fight the battles they need to fight on their own soil, lessening the degree to which it spills onto ours.

So not Gretzky and Matt Tkachuk who have recently been shaking hands with and praising Trump. For Christ sake even Don Cherry has seen the light.
