OH! A kid who just got his Driver's License competing in NASCAR...

How did I not think of that one before?

Although, lets be honest...people would pay to see that one.

In all time medals at the Olys, Finland is tied for 4th all time.

Canada 22
USA 17
Sweden 11
Soviet/Russia 9
Finland 9
Czechoslovakia 8

The big difference is Finland has never won Gold.

They absolutely should be included in any international tournament though.

Only the Czechs. Even then, there are only 5 Czech d-men who have played games in the NHL this year. They could probably find a couple more in the AHL to fill out the roster.

That's a problem with doing an NHL-centric "World Cup" midseason. There's really only 6 nations that have enough NHLers to ice a full lineup and you're unlikely to get the European leagues to shutdown for two weeks in February to allow their players to participate.

Watch European soccer....often the relegation battle is just as interesting as the Championship battle. There is LOTS on the line.

In North America the crappiest team is rewarded so there is incentive to be that team. In Europe you are viciously punished so there is desperate incentive NOT to be that team.
You would not like relegation for one second if Liverpool ever sunk to that level.
The EPL is basically a few globetrotters vs a whole bunch of generals.

Uh...Liverpool were pretty close there at one point under Hicks & Gillette. They were very close to a financial points deduction because those chuckleheads couldnt pay their bills. Been there, done that and...literally got the t-shirt.

Thats just the way it is. And I disagree, the EPL at the moment is an absolute blast!

Everton are fighting relegation, Man United and Spurs are playing like dogcrap, Chelsea are spending money like it's going out of style and stuck in 4th...Nottingham Forest is in 3rd! Nottingham. Forest.

Bournemouth are 1 point behind the 2nd most expensive team in the world. 1 point.

Sounds like Doughty will be the defenseman named to Canada's team tomorrow.

Not shocking, but old and coming off an injury. Not the ideal choice.

Meh, I doubt Doughty or Crosby will be Olympic bound, this might be their final big "international" swaray.

I'm cheering for a McDigin locker room melt down of the most awkward kind.

I don't understand why so many here are down on this tourney.
What's wrong with international hockey?

This.

Wtf is wrong with people. Like... what is it that makes some people feel like their dislike of something is so important they have to make sure everyone knows?

Coming into a thread about "which team are you cheering for" just to announce they think the whole thing sucks is kinda like... walking into a store and yelling out that you think whatever that store is selling is a joke.

Like someone who hates video games literally driving to a Gamestop to yell inside the doorway that video games suck. What's even more sad is some of the posters even stick around and post reminders of their dislike on every page. I wonder if they also walk around inside record stores all day and make sure everyone that comes in knows how much they hate vinyl lol.

Anyway... I have a reason to cheer for all four teams. Barky on Finland, Chucky on USA, Bennett on Canada (plus... it's Canada) and Andersson on Sweden.

I think one reason, on this board, is it’s harder to cheer for Canada for a bunch of reasons including McDavid

Maybe something similar might work. You don’t have to replace the worst the team. You could reward the 4 best countries based on performances in between “4 nations” events, Olympics, World Cup, Juniors and maybe even the NHL, giving more weight to the higher level of competition. Then you could claim the currently 4 best countries are represented

Crosby has 58 points in 55 games. His game isn’t dropping off that much. Unless his game completely nose dives in the next twelve months, he’s the captain of that team
