No. Im saying those players demonstrate that performance can happen at key times in spite of fatigue and that its jarring that this group with its additions struggles so much to score at even strength.

I'm saying fatigue shouldn't alone excuse the lack of performance. Many players can be bagged for half a game but make that shot from the slot count when they get it.

I'm arguing that focus and preparation are probably reflected in the last few losses as much as fatigue or talent. Flames have enough nhl talent to convert on some chances at EVS.

I think they lacked focus in the back half of the last two games in particular.

It's as simple as looking at any team's record in the second half of back to back games.

I'd be shocked if any team has a better record in Game 2 over Game 1, over a period of say 10 seasons.

To suggest fatigue has no impact on athletes is, quite simply, an obtuse position to take.

Rested vs Tired statistics have existed for ages, and in absolutely no surprise you have yet another opinion that is straight up wrong. This article is over 10 years old and took about 20 seconds to google. Keep believing in luck and avoid logic at all costs, it’s working out wonderfully lol.

TLDR:

Rested Teams on B2B have a win% of 0.596
Tired Teams on B2B have a win% of 0.495

(I believe they actually mean points %, not win % but the message from the article still stands).

Where are you seeing this? MacKinnon has averaged 23:04 per game this season, McDavid 22:10, Draisaitl 21:45. The only one of the four to average 25 minutes is Makar, and defencemen normally play more minutes than forwards.

There's also the issue that players with that kind of endurance are basically freaks of nature. Most professional athletes, even most NHL players, can't handle that many minutes for extended periods without seeing their performance suffer.

The other factor in all this is that teams don't practise on game days. If you're playing 10 games in 16 days, or whatever that number was, and travelling as well, you're not getting much practice time to correct your mistakes.

I’m sure you of all people would be happy about that. I doubt many people predicted the Flames would be in a playoff spot in February. They’re getting a lot out of a fairly unskilled roster, which should be fun if you’re a fan.

I'd rather us be terrible and get the first overall pick than finish a single spot out of the playoffs and draft way lower. How much fun it is almost making the playoffs each year, or almost always getting knocked out in the first round? We have to be the most average team in the history of the NHL.
