“Canada is bending the knee, just like Mexico,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN.
Quote:
This was a stunning insult coming from a press aide with no diplomatic responsibility. It also suggested deep contempt for Canada, especially in the White House of a president who demands it become the 51st state.

Where's that poster that said both sides should show some compassion? They are mocking and insulting us at the highest level, and we should be compassionate toward them? #### them.
But federal statistics show that of the 21,889 pounds of fentanyl seized by US border authorities in the 2024 fiscal year, only 43 pounds were taken at the Canadian border. And of the approximately 1.6 million US Border Patrol encounters with migrants at places other than legal ports of entry, just 23,721, or about 1.5%, were at the northern border.

^ Wow, some actually policy instead of "Trudeau and Liberals suck catchphrase".
While I have no love for PP, I think those points are all pretty pertinent/constructive.
lol, until you realize he's pretending this wasn't essentially the liberal's plan that was passed in 2017: https://www.cfta-alec.ca/.
What stopped it from being even better? Provincial leaders and unions opposing a bunch of stuff that would have improved it and that the liberals were pushing for.
PP gonna PP, dude.

It was a jest, but other than food stuff, I can't even think of a US product I buy. I guess the appliances tend to be better than those from overseas, if mostly because you can get parts for them.
I do prefer Charmin over Royale, Scotties et al.

Totally. Good luck, PP. Alberta will be the first of the premiers to not play ball on this renewed initiative, guaranteed.
Question though; Is there less economic incentive for provinces to sell more within Canada than the US, especially with the dollar difference factored in? I am not well versed in this subject.

You got to give ol’PP credit for picking up on it though. Might have beat Carney to it by mere seconds. Maybe this time someone will get it done.

I don’t know about less incentive but the north south trade routes are better established with an access to a larger market. If you are in Ontario you are right across from Detroit, Buffalo,Cleveland. Metro Detroit alone has 4.3 million people, only 500,000 less than all of Alberta who are quite the long haul away.
Create a professional qualification recognized in all provinces that would allow doctors, nurses and engineers to work anywhere in the country.
Ooh...thats a good idea but that is going to be a tough sell to various Professional Associations.
I'd actually hope they also included Teachers in that plan, allowing them to move inter-provincially without re-accreditation requirements.
But again...that could be a tough sell and once factoring in localization of pensions could be really tricky.
But essentially the outline of that plan is: "We're a Country, you should be able to freely practice your profession in any Province without barriers or conditions."

I think engineering is pretty much there at this point. You still need to apply since each province has its own body, but it’s pretty seamless now.

This is a pretty important article. Thanks for posting it.
It further demonstrates how the US is going to have an authoritarian government going forward, complete with a full onslaught of state propaganda and constant saber rattling.
Trump and the people around him are predatory, and as much as today feels like a return to normal here after yesterday, nothing is normal now IMO. These people will take whatever they can get and I wouldn't put anything past them. I hope that's the view our leaders have too.

Well, I'd say Trudeau does for sure. I can't imagine how he could have handled this better, brought Canadians together better, communicated the severity of the threat better, and negotiated with the Americans better. Dealing with this and the future threats will be basically a new full-time job for all the feds right now.

Yeah, it's the same for nurses and doctors. Can be an annoying lengthy application process, with some fees, but it's more of a speed bump than a wall
