Emotional responses can be good or bad. I can’t control mine. I cry a lot even when people instruct me not to…(?) But that’s why you have a group of people in a room. Think it through. Is banning orange juice truly going to make your life better, or is it a political display?

Don’t get into an economic war with the USA. Wait this out and build infrastructure to expand your options. Punishing Canadian consumers because Donald Trump is crazy is crazy itself.
Canada must respond with retaliatory tariffs. This is partly for domestic signaling. If it looks like Canada is unwilling to defend domestic manufacturing, then the manufacturing will capitulate and move to the US. Also, you must force the governers and congressman of red states that are impacted to choose between their voters and Trump.

We also need to immediately approve every single pipeline on the table and even ones on the drawing board to attract capital. This includes LNG plants. If the gov't needs to subsidize their construction, then do so as this is a matter of national security. Permanently eliminate any restrictions on tanker traffic or LNG traffic. Suspend First Nations consultations or limit them to existing, and put a short timeline on them - a few weeks at most. Preferably this all comes as a resource corridor.

Initiate an immediate trade envoy to India and China and make it public.

Some of the unconventional things I've heard that would be interesting:

1. Suspend all patent protection for US pharmaceuticals for a period of 5 years. Allow Canadian generic drug companies to decimate US brand name drug company revenues.

2. Limit traffic on the St Lawrence River. Maybe for "inspections" or something.

3. Immediately de-commit to the F-35 program and cancel any related penalties. Buy the Typhoon from Europe. Make similar commitments to EU/UK defense contractors.

I very much doubt that a Liberal led trade envoy to India would be exactly welcome.

I do like the patent protection suspension.
Limiting commercial traffic might get a reaction that we don't want, I mean Trump just sent a battalion of Marines to the Southern Border.

I wouldn't decommit on the F-35, but I might threaten it. Or use it to show our seriousness on defense spending.

Just how narrow minded are you?

I watched the whole video in hopes of some grand revelations in the likes that you say and the biggest takeaway was....he's simply suggesting increasing trade with other more like minded nations.

That's it. Nations that, god forbid, also have climate policies of some sort of other.

Carney's really got the Cons running so scared that they're just flinching at every little opportunity to attack eh?

Hilarious, the reversing polls are getting to ya!

Now this is the type of response that would be good for Canada.

This isn't. Trump screws American consumers and the response is Trudeau screwing Canadian consumers?

This has definitely been an interesting thread. I've had some nice discussions with most people and I've had one pitiful individual comment on my breasts and attempt to look me up on LinkedIn and the Chamber of Commerce.

From 8.40 onwards. And from about 6:00 to 7:00 minutes. Carney blathering on about climate policy was a major part of the interview.

Climate policy is no longer viable. Carney is a bit of a lunatic on the topic, and isn't too shy to say so.

Retaliatory tariffs are a domestic indicator to domestic manufacturing.

Billionaires worried about their ability to gather more billions. Definitely who we should look to for unbiased views on or next actions.

It’s so… painful. They could support the redistribution of wealth and stave off a revolution and go back to still being the richest people on the planet… and enjoy it with some stability…. ####ing mind-numbing.

I’m going to do my darnedest to avoid American products from now on and only buy Canadian or goods from Canada friendly countries. And at this point I’m never setting foot in the US again.

Canadian billionaires trying to sell us out to join the American oligarchy are also treading on dangerous ground.

The only way Trump can legally enact tariffs is by declaring an emergency. The border thing isnt real.

I fear that even this trade war isn't enough to move the Canadian population off their obsession with carbon.

We no longer have the economic situation to afford luxuries like climate policy.

If we don’t worry about carbon then we shouldn’t worry about anything else either. Climate change is the number one threat to the world in terms of impact to our lives. This economic war will be over at best in weeks, at worst in years. Not dealing with the climate emergency will cost us everything.

The fact that you think climate policy is a luxury is just ignorant to what is happening to our planet right now.

Yeah I guess I should clarify that I understand that part. But the basis for the lie doesn’t even make sense…

“Canada hasn’t started the Avengers yet and saved the world, therefore we are enacting tariffs”…
