$4M was optimistic. If Frost was being deployed as the #2C and on PP1, the only way his cap hit was going to be under $5M was if it was a 1 year deal or walked him to UFA. With arbitration rights, I am not sure the comparable really help the Flyers avoid a bigger number.

At the same time, the Flyers are a mushy middle team with no cap space and more players needing raises along with Frost. Moving Frost and Farabee makes sense for them because now they can focus the cap space on Foerster, Cates, and York, and tank for a couple more drafts to bolster their prospect base even more. Then see if they can push in 2026-27 when they finally clear out their dead cap ($7.5+M this year, $5+M next year).

They turned two guys who were not NHL regulars into NHL regulars.

That moves the needle.

It's a good depth-building trade for the Flames. Two lineup regulars in exchange for spare parts and a pick(s). Nothing franchise-defining.

Frost and farabee - worst case slide in and replace Backlund and Coleman.

Money comes off books and have a young third line.

This is a huge win all around for the Flames.

I'm not a fan of those lines. Huberdeau, Kadri and Farabee I could maybe see down the stretch. There's 32 games left, Coleman-Backlund-Coronato have worked really this season, I don't see a reason to change that line. I'd keep Farabee and Frost to start seeing as how they played on the same line in philly. There's a reason the 4th line gets the minutes they do. Also, It'd be nice to see Kerins back in the line up.

Huby - Kadri - Sharky
Coronato - Backlund - Coleman
Farabee - Frost - Zary (Popsy till he comes back)
Klapka - Kerins/Bishop (Popsy) - Lomberg

This feels like a move that yes improves us and gives us a shot at being a playoff team, but also not really elevating the team or future out of the mushy middle.

I think it puts serious question marks that this team will ever bottom out as I’d hoped they would, which disappoints me from a competing for the cup standpoint, but gets them closer to annually competing for a playoff spot. So perhaps it ends my apathy towards the team? Time will tell.

The team will need to absolutely nail their drafting moving forward if we’re picking in the 16-20 range every year, that’s for sure.
I am definitely on team high pick and rebuild but I like this move because neither Frost or Farabee will keep the Flames higher than they should be if Wolf falters but I was also starting to think Wolf was going to stop them from getting a top 5 pick anyways. If Conroy keeps on getting age appropriate players and not giving up a lot of future I’ll be happy.

I think both these guys will have a major change of scenery bump. Frost is HIGH skill I think some will be surprised

Clear they don't want to be here. Another swing and a miss by Conroy. Watch that 7th round pick from 2028 become a servicable 4th liner by 2034. Have to stop giving away draft picks. /s

Did I do that right?

You forgot to mention about how this is a failed rebuilt because we gave away picks for players.

And that the NCAA loophole is going to mean they leave eventually anyways.

will be interesting to hear from Frost especially after Torts said pulling him from the game was not trade related but due to Frost not feeling well. Probably just BS, but who knows.

Farabee is American too, he'll obviously want to bolt as soon as his contract expires.

I'm sure they are just super busy. The trade happened pretty late yesterday and I am sure they have a lot going on tying up loose ends and arranging things in Calgary, plus travel.

I wonder if Hathaway reached out to them. When he left as a free agent, he gave a lot of praise to Calgary and the Flames organization. Hopefully he gave them some encouragement.

Yup, I saw it too and agree with your take. The other thing I have noticed with Naz is he has a bit of the RBF syndrome (Resting **tch Face syndrome) where he has minimal facial expressions when speaking to the media, so some will interpret that as him being unhappy.

Good trade for Calgary IMO. I think Kuzmenko is a better player than what he showed this year but he wasn't returning and to get a top 6 forward and another top 9 forward is a good return.
