Hmm, that's actually a great place for an SDM. Lots of old people around there.

I would be shocked if that Safeway didn't have a clause limiting grocery competition in the same mall.

How does shoppers make so much money to pay for such high real estate to warehouse perfumes? Just curious what a profit distribution would be there?

Prescriptions - 25%
OTC drugs - 30%
Naturopath nonsense - 15%
Dollar store food crap - 15%
Other stuff - 15%
Perfume - 15%

Note: these numbers don’t add up because the math was done by a woman.

I don't get how there's a Shopper's popping up on every corner, when there's a much more interesting London Drugs to go to.

London Drugs stocks a lot of stuff, like electronics, that people can get from other sources. Shopper’s focuses on items that people typically don’t buy online. Also, people don’t like to drive for 15 min to pick up Nyquil, so lots of dispersed locations is a better model than fewer, big stores.

And they charge a huge premium for that stuff. 150 mL of NyQuil $29.99. Go to Walmart and it’s 7 quarts for 8 bucks, because you feel like garbage and don’t want to suffer through Walmart.

I dont find anything about either of them that particularly interesting.

Huh, I assumed a replacement for the defunct Northland Mall Shopeprs location would be going back in at Northland when the redevelopment is further along. I guess it's not too out there to see both a Dalhousie and Northland location.

Still, bummer about Chapters.

It is definitely not out of the question based on current Shoppers locations. There is one in Market Mall and they recently opened in University District. There is also Crowfoot Centre and the store in Silver Springs. In both cases they are pretty similar to Dalhousie and Northland.

That location is cursed. I started working across the street in 2013 and I think this is the 4th different business in that building since then. Moose & Poncho was good but it was pricey for what you got. Plus Monza is right around the corner and that place is awesome.

Love is a strong word, but found a bubble waffle pan there and they still do passport photos. The employees are sassy too, which I appreciate.

It’s usually to buy computer crap and a Nintendo switch. Their computer nerds are real and not on the same planet as crappy box stores like Best Buy. They just seem to have a bunch of weird crap in there.

Anyone been to Uncle Weiners? Heard it’s really cool with random stuff.

Reasons I'm a fan of LD:

I like that LD more of an oddball general store that has a bit of everything. You get the basic "drugs" of Shoppers, but with the bonus of electronics and random gadgets, which just makes for a more interesting experience. Shoppers in comparison is so generic.

I like their small, but generally useful, electronics department. While they don't have as much stuff, they always seem to have the one thing I need, in stock. Plus, the sales people tend to be older, and seem to know what they are talking about...unlike the teens at Best Buy.

The location I go to, London Town Square, is an authorized Apple service centre. I've found it to be a great place to get my computers serviced, as the people who work in the Computer department are legitimate old-school nerds, not annoying hipster "geniuses" you find at the Apple Store. The Apple Store was actually the one who told me to go to LD when they couldn't solve an issue...and I've been using them ever since. Very fair prices for service, and they give great advice that doesn't try to upsell. One time I had to go back to get something small fixed, and they gave me a $25 gift card for my time.

One of the few places where you can still get photos developed and printed. They also have a pretty decent collection of vinyl. My kind of nostalgia!

It is eclectic. What you’d expect an Amazon returns centre and Princess Auto had a baby. If you’re looking for some specific item from their webpage, don’t expect it to be there.

LD has a large variety of foods/snacks from Europe which can be fun. Also I like their center aisle seasonal stuff. Can get some great deals at end of seasons in there if you time it right. As others have alluded to, an actual photo center and electronics areas with people who know what they are talking about is unique.

Lots of stuff to like about that store.
