Wonder which guy got the cold feet?

IMO they arent gonna see anything better...but then again there are so many moving pieces and noise around both clubs.

My guess is with the Rangers outside the playoffs they wanted top 12 protection on the pick and the Canucks were looking for less aggressive protection (top 5 maybe)

Hard trade to make with a 1st attached when you've been free falling and on the outside looking in.

According to the Athletic, one source said the hang up was the conditions on protecting the 1st round pick.

Which is a big deal because the Rangers 1st could be a top 10 pick if they don't get their #### together.

Also makes sense why Miller was informed that he might not play. Deal framework was done, but the details of the lottery protection scuttled the deal.

At this time of year, if not in playoff spot , doesn’t every team do top 10 protected? Wonder if rangers are asking top 15 protection? My guess this gets done closer to trade deadline or done in summer.

They can only protect one year correct? And then the next year it has to be unprotected? In that case yeah I could see it being a Treliving-esque series of conditions that just served to piss off a GM

I don’t think there’s a rule to that. So I can’t see why it can’t be done. But maybe I’m wrong.

I don't know. If you don't think a 31 year old Miller is good enough to help get the team into the playoffs (or at the very least out of the bottom 10), then why are you making the trade in the first place?

I think you could technically protect for multiple years, but just never see it done. Multiple year protection just makes it more likely someone would come up with a better offer.

Incorrect. Dallas, for example, picked Hiskanen and Ottenger in the first and followed that up with Robertson in the second. They deserve full credit.

Who cares how many times Detroit passed over those guys - bottom line is that they still picked them and we didn't. Means they did a better job than the rest of us.

By the same logic you could argue our late round gems were just flukes and we fell into them, rather than the scouts maybe seeing something other guys didn't.

Yeah, I never liked the 'they passed on him too' argument.

The bottom line is that team picked that player before any other team did. If the player worked out, they were right.

45 days to the trade deadline.

I hope we trade Andersson sooner rather than later. Running draft sims is very harmful to the mind with todays rankings.

I wouldn’t be getting my hopes up if I was you. I don’t think they are trading Andersson in season. It has been reported by every insider the flames do not plan to trade him before they can offer him an extension in the summer

The Flames have all of next season to figure what they should do with Andersson.

Yes, it does appear that they will choose to lose the opportunity to get the most value for our assets possible, in what appears to be some vain and mad attempt to "get to the playoffs and anything can happen!!!!!!"

Just as feared.

Calgary has showed nothing which indicates otherwise.

They only trade guys who they cannot resign.

Flames management and ownership is so disappointing. Year after year after year.

Sell the goddamn team to an owner who wants to actually compete.

Letting the players dictate the situation is not a good way to run your organization. Especially a Rasmus Andersson, the decision should be made by the team for the player we are moving on. Doesn't mean it has to be now, but just the fact they want to start negotiating in the summer is disappointing because I highly doubt, he signs a deal that pays him in line with what he brings.

He is in the Weegar range or below, and he will probably want 8 plus.

Management is handling things differently than the past regime did. They've re-built the pipeline, stocked up on picks and have one of the lowest payrolls.
If you don't see that, that's on you.

That doesn't mean they are going to trade every player and not re-sign anyone.
