Regarding the comments about fans still calling for a bottom 10 finish...
They are still plenty close enough for that to happen - it would just take a 4-5 game losing streak and they would be right there. But the likelihood of that is now smaller, because they have changed the goalie deployment.
While they were sheltering Wolf, and splitting the games, the possibility of a bottom 10 finish remained not only possible, but still maybe even probable. But since Dec 14th, they are playing Wolf 60% of the time. If they continue to do that, there is little to no chance of bottom 10 (unless injuries and trades completely derail them). And no trades are coming, as long as they are in the playoff discussion.

No kidding.
Oops, our star rookie goalie is carrying us to a wildcard spot… what a developmental nightmare…

Wolf won't win the Calder because he's a a goalie, because at best he will split the vote with Celebrini, and because of the general bias towards eastern conference awards finalists that the media generally gets to see more of.
And none of those things will diminish his capability as a player and his legitimacy as a franchise cornerstone. We can appreciate what we have in him, even if the recognition doesn't come from elsewhere.

Of the last 15 Calder winners
6 played in the Eastern conference
9 in the West.
But you are correct that (at this time) Wolf would not be the winner.

Last game of a long trip. Tired team mentally tired you are likely to get dominated and need your goalie to steal the game.
Wolf is checking all the boxes every game. Every new challenge he just steps up and proves any doubters wrong. He should be in the hart conversation as well. Huska in the jack Adams as well n

Its just a disadvantage to winning a trophy against skaters that is baked into the position. You dont play as much....you dont get seen as much.
Whether it be the Calder or Hart....G's have a higher bar to clear.
Not arguing he isnt worthy of it, but pointing out historically how it goes and moreso why.

Minutes for a goalie - well, sure they aren't in the play 60 minutes. But a lot of the time players in a shift aren't part of the play either, they are getting into position, looking for an opening, etc.
Let's say goalies only have to be on their toes half the game. It's still 30 minutes per start. And in games like last night an even greater amount.

I think there is enough on the roster and in the pipeline that the Flames G, D and W positions will be very good for the next decade. If conroy can dig up some high end Cs via trade and/or draft the Flames should have a top 5 to 10 team that should be in position to have multiple runs at winning a cup.

Cammalleri was one of my favorite players when I was a kid. Just such a good forward. I wish we had him longer and that he was healthy more often, because when he was, he made a huge impact. The one-knee Cammalleri laser beams were the coolest thing ever to young me.
Coronato, while still really young and developing, is already the closest thing to that particular type of trigger man I've seen since we had prime Cammy, and it's really fun to watch him grow. The amount of improvements he's made this season is incredible.

Tre doesn't get enough credit for the work he did here. Were there mistakes? Yes. But we are starting to bear the fruits of his quality drafting. And of course credit to Conny as well, who was helping him every step of the way.

You can get by in the nhl with bigger teams and a little less talent if you just throw your opponent around during board battles. Its alot easier to to contain an elite team if they are smaller as your guys are more equal to winning those puck battles. If that makes sense. Every puck battle ends up being more 50/50 vs the bigger teams just dumping you a second or 2 after a puck touch.

I had always thought that the Jets are in fact a big team, so I looked it up and at least according to the below, Winnipeg is tied for 5th in the league. Surprisingly the Blues are in fact below the Flames in the ranking at 26th whereas Calgary is 17th.
Of the top 10 in the below ranking, it's a 50/50 spit too in terms of playoff position or out.
As for the game, sitting down now to watch the replay. Looking forward to watching Wolf dominate!
