Pick a lane BoLevi. Either he's been away for ages and parachuting into the leadership contest or being former Governor of the Bank of Canada is a conflict of interest.
You can't have it both ways.

Most importantly, I trust him a lot more than Pierre to get us through economic troubles, because he understand issues deeper than three word slogans.

If he was running to lead the Conservatives vs Pierre, say, in their last leadership run, who would you have picked, and why?
You vote your country's leader based off someone's performance on a comedy talk show?

...

You are looking at it the wrong way.

If he was chosen instead of Trudeau and it was Carney vs Harper in 2015, I would have voted Carney as I voted Liberal that year and I don't vote based on partisanship ground.

And who knows, if Carney is not a narcissist and used a reasoned approach to policies versus running on pure ideology and pitting regions against each other, perhaps Liberals would have gotten my vote in 2019, 2021. But this is an alternate timeline.

We are in 2025.

Carney believes in the century initiative and carbon tax (not necessarily Trudeau's implementation) that are both heavily panned. His values in 2025 are similar to that of the Liberal core party today, and mimics Trudeau's values.

Carney would never get chosen versus Poilievre as party leader as CPC if he ran on those values today. The CPC kicked out a centrist to match the discontent of Canadians and because O'Toole introduced carbon tax in their platform. Would I personally chose him over Poilievre in a CPC race? Yes, if the policies stayed grounded.

Carney is a great candidate to be PM, if we were back in 2015 or 2019, and perhaps he would have been a great alternative to Harper even if he run on the CPC side. Today, we need something else. Maybe in 2029 we need a Carney with a completely rebuilt Liberal party that has shifted their policies to help Canadians again instead of telling Canadians what is best for them.

Today, this isn't about Carney, this about the party and policies implemented (and yes I watched most of it). His party needs to earn the trust of Canadians back (they are doing the total opposite).

Has Fox interviewed a lot of Canadian politicians? I did not know the US has become so invested in Canadian politics.

He's just not ready yet, maybe next election.
That line worked really well for Harper.

Also side note: watch a curveball be thrown and we have Freeland become leader / PM.

I find the sudden gushing for Carney as some type of saviour from the CPC as if he is already PM / leader quite amusing, while the same folks gushing about how Carney would destroy Poilievre are not even mentioning Freeland at all. What is she, chopped liver?

What happens if she wins? Back to square one on the next narrative?

How are Carney's Policy's going to be different then Trudeaus and the mess we are in? Carney saying he is a outsider in that interview is laughable. Does he not hold some made up tittle for the Trudeau governement for the last couple years already?

You’re mad that people are talking about Carney because you’d rather talk about Freeland?

Weird stuff, man.

Freeland is just too close to all of Trudeau's stuff. When it comes down to it, I think the Liberal membership will be will more interested in Carney, because it's a lot harder to pin all of Trudeau's policies on him, despite the efforts already rolling in this thread. That, and his strong financial background make him a good choice at this moment in time.

We'll have to wait and see. Could still be a long time until an election.

If by 'last couple years' you mean about 3 months, sure.

Not if WE THE PEOPLE in the Convoy have something to say about it by driving trucks slowly and honking the horn!

More serious note - I wonder if there's a world where this 'election convoy' becomes even a fraction as big as the freedom convoy, and if so, does PP get tied to it. Does that help or hinder?

You got confused this morning?

Gushing hard about how Poilievre being nervous about Carney, about Carney destroying Poilievre in election debates, when Freeland could just as easily win the leadership, makes it seem like the race has already been won. It's as if the possibility of her winning isn't even in the mindset of the built narrative to some of you.

What happens if Freeland wins?

Carney just joined as a Liberal party member in September.

If Freeland wins I think it’s too easy to tie her back to the Trudeau government even with the dramatic resignation and you end up not materially moving the needle. Carney has potential to shake up the race which still likely leads to a conservative majority but it gives the chance of a minority.

So in that sense Freeland is less interesting to talk about. Also Carney might be the most qualified person to run a country we have had run for office.

He's definitely grabbed attention and got people talking. Long road to go and major uphill battle to achieve any kind of electoral success but this is step 1.

Milhouse hasn't even had a real job, he's been a career political wonk, and just shouts off easy populist schlock. That's reason alone I won't be voting for him. Very much looking forward to see who will win the Liberal leadership race, and hear their platforms, especially now in the post-Trudeau era.

Carney has been an economic advisor to Trudeau since COVID.

Many of Trudeau's ideas are simply Carney's ideas.
