So, Coronato should take less because he was picked 13th and is playing at the same point pace?

We can try and nickel and dime our players and walk them to UFA so we can go chase a Troy Brouwer or James Neal. Or we can reward our home-grown talent.

My predictions,

Coronato - 6 x 6
Zary - 8 x 7
Wolf - 5 x 6.5

totally what I said, bang on as usual
draft pedigree is a thing...players don't just get X amount of dollars per point, there are multiple factors. Yes Coronato should and I think will will take less than 7.6M, I guess we shall see.

I trust Conroy not to make mistakes like Brouwer, Neal, or Frolik again.

That said, I’m totally fine with paying full freight for the young guys on the longest term they’ll take to help avoid having the cap space to make those mistakes available.

I didn't say that is what you said.

I asked you a question above that comment. It was just a comment in general.

I don't think so either. Treliving tried to squeeze the RFA's so he could go out shopping.

I think Conroy uses free agency like he did this offseason, make some smart short-term signings to fill the gap for a year or 2. I think operating that way when you are a contender is best as well.

Add an Evan Rodrigues type as an example.

For Juraj or Coronato?

I think he comes in at 7 and it's fair. Again, we are buying UFA and Prime years.

It's a comparable, and a fair one, I think. The entire NHL went into a freeze trying to find comparable when all those players became RFA in 2019.

Signing anything short term is a huge risk to the team, not that I think player will want to leave as soon as possible but because the CBA expires, and we could be looking at a different landscape with contract terms.

Positivity or negativity is a choice.
Yeah, it’s great for Kerins. I felt great for Kirkland when he got a shot at it and exceeded all expectations. Just doesn’t happen that often. I think Pelletier led the AHL or was close to it.

I like most of what Conroy has done so far with a few exceptions. But I am not him so of course we aren’t going to agree on everything. If I asked you which team not in the playoffs would have the most points would you be surprised if it was Calgary? And he practically tore down the entire team so there’s nothing to complain about. Sigh.

So the whole NHL is moving away from bridge contracts on young, producing players from all the past mistakes where they end up on massive AAV on the subsequent deal or go to free agency, which disproportionately affects non favorable locations like Calgary. So we should....turn back the clock and lean into that strategy again?
