I'm not wading into the "what are they worth" conversation, but I don't think people are ready for the salary inflation that's alot to come with the NHL.
The cap hasn't moved since COVID because the players needed to pay the owners back. But the cap going from $82M a year or two ago to $110M in a couple years means what was maybe $14M now is the same as about $20M.

What is your intention here? Leading ahl scorer plays for the flames. Yes I want to see that

We have seen this multiple times before. I’m not trying to quash anyone’s excitement and I apologize if I did. Just, very unlikely that anything special will happen. I’ll likely watch but I would have anyway.
Flames have the most points of any team out of the playoffs…who could predict it. I guess I’m frustrated.

A 6th round pick making a big league debut 4 years after the draft (and a season in the ECHL) - that's plenty special in my book. I'm not expecting a 500-game NHL career or anything but I'm excited for the kid.
Positivity or negativity is a choice.

Don’t be frustrated. They are trending in the right direction. I believe Conroy has a plan and he knows what he is doing. Just let it play out.
Yes, I’m sure you’d cancel your plans to see the leading AHL scorer play Chicago if he wasn’t wearing a Flames jersey. Lol. He will play 8-14 minutes to get used to the pace. We’ve seen this countless times before.
Unless you’re his mom or dad, then all the best to him. It isn’t going to change the season.
Flames fan on Flames board is interested in watching a Flames prospect. News at 11.
I don’t think that number gets it done. His agent would see what we see. $4.5 million AAV would get you a bridge deal of 2-3 years but I think a long term deal would cost around $7 million AAV at least. The cap is going up. The flames are desperate to keep their home grown talent and have more cap space than virtually anyone in the league.
I really don’t want Conroy to make the mistake Treliving did nickel-and-diming the young star players into shorter contracts (Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Monahan). Make it 8 years.
My guess would be something like this:
Zary: 8 years - $7.5 million AAV
Coronato: 8 years - $7.5 million AAV
Wolf: 8 years - $8.0 million AAV
You want to give a player with 13 career goals a $60 million dollar contract?
Slafkovsky signed a 7 year extension 7.6 AAV after scoring 24 goals in 121 games.
We are buying his prime years, that doesn't come cheap.
Where do you think Coronato tops out in terms of production? The Habs are making a bet that Slaf is a top line player and producer. I'm not sure i agree with their projection.

I think he has #1RW potential. At worst a 2nd line RW who can pot 30 goals maybe 40.
He really doesn't need to play with a passer either, he creates his own shot and it's a lethal shot.
I think we can add him to the PK at some point as well he is a high energy player.
Kind of like with Huberdeau if we get him more ice, and into more situations the more he touches all areas of the game he will score more.
That's an interesting thought. I think I'd like to see him go at least a 3rd year with UMass next season and really see if he can take his game up to the next level

Remember when Scorp wrote that article about the Flames being the only team without a draft pick since 2018 playing on the team?
Kerins! will be the 9th now. Poirier or Stromgren could make it 10, before the year is out.
Yan Kuznetsov and Ilya Solovyov. Both should get looks this year, especially Kuznetsov

This. Last rebuild, we did not go max term with any of the young core pieces. It ended up cutting the competitive window short by at least 2 years. That was done to hedge the bets on what the players projected to be and to save cap space in the short term.
This time I would rather trust what the player is projecting to be. And the cap is going up. Barring something unforeseen (like COVID), in 5 years time, a $7.5 million cap hit player will be equivalent to what a $4.5 million cap hit player is today.
Zary, Coronato and Wolf all look like legit core pieces going forward. It’s a gamble of course to pay them early but I’d prefer that gamble as to potentially signing bridge deals that effectively walk them to free agency.
