Unfortunately, swelling can make it hard to identify meniscal and PCL tears, so they might have to repeat the imaging once the swelling subsides. That or do an exploratory scope, but the fewer times you go into the knee, the better.

The meniscus is such a weird thing to me.

Evolution was just like "you know what your knee needs, this squishy little gel cap between your bones'

There was some chance of that if the ACL, the MCL, and the medial meniscus were all torn. That's not the case, so now there is little chance of that outcome.

If you think that's weird, you should see what's happening in research to treat worn-out menisci. They are using nanoparticles in mouse models. These nanoparticles join together in a flexible matrix that creates good conditions for the growth of chondrocytes, cartilage-building cells. So the end result is a hybrid artificial-natural tissue that functions almost the same as natural cartilage. Of course, it will be 10-15 years before we see this technology used in humans.

Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary suffered a knee injury on January 7th against the Anaheim Ducks.

Following an evaluation process, it has been determined that Zary will not require surgery but will be missing from the Flames line-up for an indefinite period. Zary will begin his rehabilitation immediately.

I didn't think there was any chance he'd be back this year. Now it feels probable.

no ACL, no MCL, no surgery ... fantastic. Still sucks he's out indefinitely, but that is a lot of bullets dodged.

I presume he’s out for months . Glad he didn’t need surgery.

Fantastic news, best possible outcome the way that knee hyperextended. Just don't bring him back until he's 100%.

Still sucks he’s it but glad it’s not serious. Those surgeries take a long time to heal he probably wouldn’t be up to speed until the 26/27 season.

He was making great progress.

Gonna guess a month and a lil bit. Pretty sure he's got some serious contussion or deep bruising to heal up. Bet that thing is going to have all the colors of the rainbow in it while he heals it up.

Seems similar to Laine from early this season. He took a knee on knee hit and was out about 8 weeks or so..

I thought his season was over for sure. I was more worried about it having an impact on his career than I was about this season.

15 games until the Four Nations tourney. Best case scenario I would think, is a return after that, Feb 23rd, which is 6+ weeks.
