Wright is definitely worth taking a swing on for the right price.

As long as you're not expecting a superstar #1 (although I still think there's a high ceiling).

He has 16 points his last 20 games and was put on the top PP unit right around then. Still could be a #1 center if slotted in that role.

0 chance Seattle does this trade though.

Maybe that would be more palatable for Seattle - but they are still selling a bit low on Wright just to get out from that contract.
I think that tilts the trade a bit too much to the Kraken. The Kraken adding a struggling goalie with a big cap hit should reduce the give from the Flames, not increase it by a 1st. One of the NJD 1st or Pelletier (1st) should come out of the trade or the assets should be downgraded.

I wonder how this could turn into a 3-way trade if the NTC blocks Calgary from taking Grubauer.

Seattle receives Vladar + CGY 2nd
Calgary receives Wright + Unwanted goalie X
Team X receives Grubauer + Avs 2nd (from Calgary)

Thing is, I cannot think of a team that would fit in X. Most teams that would be willing to take Grubauer as a cap dump are likely on his 10 team NTC list. Maybe the Red Wings or Flyers?

Grub and a 1st for Vladar?

Maybe Wright isn't in this at all.

I'd do that.

Seattle is a good target. Would happily take Grubauer, I don’t think it is a huge add when we take him.

To Flames
Grubauer
Wright

To Kraken
Vladar
Pelletier
3rd

No scenario where any 1st round pick would be added if Grubauer was involved.

You just essentially added TWO 1sts to the trade (one for taking Grubauer's contract, plus another straight-up). IMO, that is way too much.

Not even sure the 3rd is necessary - Grubauer and Wright for Vladar and Pelletier

They save $3.8M a year in salary

Don't remember hearing that one before.
I heard that at the time from a former Flame...totally forgot about it

I think it could cost close to 2 1sts to get Wright though.

Vladar is worth maybe a 3rd - he's a pending UFA goalie in a market that isn't great for people moving goalies right now. Seravelli was on 960 yesterday and said even a 3rd might be tough at this point as the goalie market dried up a bit.

I love Pelletier but he's a guy who cleared waivers earlier this year, he's likely not worth much more than a 3rd in a trade and his value isn't close to a 1st anymore.

Wright is a 21 year old former 4th overall pick that has played at a 20 goal, 41 point pace during his last season and a bit of NHL games.

Maybe it's a 2nd instead of the 1st but I do think another asset would be needed on the Flames side and I think it would have to be the 1st.

If Wright were still worth that, they wouldn't be looking to move him. I think you're giving his pedigree too much weight here.

Again, seems to good to be true but sharing as a few have reported this "rumor"
At the very least it’s given us flames addicts something to talk about. Keep those rumours coming in.

He literally just turned 21 3 days ago and is still very young.

He has 18 points in 38 games this year, and that is with a really slow start that has since seen him put up 7 goals, and 16 points in his last 20 games.

They aren't selling low on him here.

He would still hold more value than Zary or Coronato.

Would anybody here want to move $6M cap dump for two seasons + Zary for pending UFA Vladar and Pelletier...I doubt it.

I’d be fine with taking on Grubauer if it means getting Wright but I just don’t see why Seattle would do this. Are they cap-strapped for some big move they want to make either now or in the offseason? He’s been playing well the last few weeks. Royle… is there more to this trade rumour? I can’t see the downside for Calgary to do this.

The only way it makes sense to me is if they were trying to clear cap space to bring in a piece like Pettersson.

Wright feels more like someone who would be in the Pettersson deal as opposed to someone who they use to dump some money.

Andrew Cristall is a player I have watched since he was young.

Drafted by Washington in the second round a year ago. Smaller player with a lot of talent. Was just traded by Kelowna to Spokane. He was left off Team Canada which surprised many.

Would have been awesome if could have landed both him and Tij Ingina (they played together in Kelowna).

Wonder if we could get him out of WSH for Rasmus? They are poised to make playoff run this year.

I have always had serious concerns about Wright’s attitude. That said, if the price was Vladar, Pelletier, and taking on a cap dump- you add that first to get it done, if that’s what it takes- as long as it’s not a top-10.
