I just don't see it. What a sell low by Seattle. But maybe Wright just wants to come back to Canada?

Understudy to Backlund and Kadri would do wonders for his development.

I'd have to agree that the enticement here would be taking on Grabauer. Daccord's new contract kicks in next year, and that would sort out the uneveness in their cap situation. It would also open up trade possibilities for them down the line, with the cap flexibility.
Under those circumstances, the trade looks a lot more even. Works for both teams.

Eating Grubauer's contract for 2 years would be easier if it came with Wright.
I wonder if the Flames are on his 10 team NTC list. Probably.
Either way, Vladar would be an upgrade based on this season's performance and match ups.
|
Possibly some retention of salary by Seattle? It wouldn't shock me if a goalie comes back in a Vladar trade so Cooley can backstop the Wranglers in the playoffs with the intent for him to be the Flames' backup next year. Alternatively, you could waive Grubauer in this case to be a Wranglers' goalie and let Cooley see some NHL action later this season.

There could always be another trade set up with another team that wants Grubauer.

I think it would have to be bigger.
Grubauer (Worth about a 1st to dump that contract)
Wright
for
Vladar
Pelletier
NJD 2025 1st
Maybe that would be more palatable for Seattle - but they are still selling a bit low on Wright just to get out from that contract.

Getting out from under that contract has the value of at least a 1st.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I'd do that Seattle trade in a heartbeat if I was Conroy.

Wright is the first they are giving us for Grub.
Why would we add one too?

Erma gerd ! Exactly the kind of trade i have been talking about. Alas its probably too good to be true.
21 year old right shot center with term. I would even put in a battaglia or second to make that happen.

Depends what you think Wright is worth...
He just turned 21 3 days ago, was a 4th overall pick just 3 drafts ago, and with 23 points and 12 goals over his last 46 NHL games he's starting to show his offensive potential (21 goal, 41 point per 82 game pace).
I think they would want a 1st on top of the cap dump personally. If I was a Seattle fan and we traded Grubauer + Wright for Vladar + Pelletier and gave up a 21 year old potential top line center to get rid of 2 years of a contract then I'd be pretty pissed off.

This one makes a bit of sense if they're not sold on Wright. No way I could see it being just vladar + pelletier for wright straight up.

I agree that deal seems more realistic but not sure the 1st is needed if the Flames take back Grubauer but I would be okay with it but hope maybe one of the Flames 2nds would get it done.

CGY acquires: Shane Wright
Again, seems to good to be true but sharing as a few have reported this "rumor"

I don't think it's far fetched because I think Shane Wright is massively over rated and has more red flags than a CCP parade.
IMO in a few years he'll be just another formerly high pick who didn't even come close to reaching the heights many thought.

I'd go after Shane Wright in a quantity for (potential) quality trade.
Vladar + Pelletier + 2nd + 3rd? Does something like that work?
Is Shane Wright worth taking a swing on? 25 pts in 54 games, 21 years old.
We have seen younger players get traded in somewhat baffling deals (Kakko) where there isn't much of a premium being paid for a recent high pick that hasn't developed.
It'd make sense to me if Conroy got aggressive on a Shane Wright trade right now (if Zary's injury is as bad as it looked)
