Be interesting to see what comes of the Liberal party. I'm surprised they have not ousted Trudeau yet. But whomever succeeds him would get that John Turner/Kim Campbell fate. Do they fight populism with populism.
Everyone in this thread seems to hate Polievre. But I think you can't deny that he's a savvy politician when it comes to self preservation. He avoided the last election as a Leader likely anticipating that whoever won likely was getting obliterated in the next election.
My opinion is that most politicians care about preserving themselves above everything else. So this next cabinet is likely the folks knowing that winning is a Longshot and likely thinking about their next move at a different level or making a run for a 2029 election.

8 ministers have or will quit within the last 6 months.
Singh now calling for Trudeau to resign....the guy who has single-handidly has allowed him to stay in power for the last 2 years.
What an ass hat.

Jagmeet has demanded Trudeau to resign. Wont commit to non confidence.
Everything is on the table. He is holding this country hostage for personal gain. Disgusting

I've been saying since beginning of 2024 that Trudeau will be lucky to be the leader of the liberals by the end of the year. Now it's looking quite likely that'll be the case. What a disaster.

I predicted a while ago that Trudeau would prorogue, resign and call a leadership race then the Libs would come back in the spring and force an election. Still think that happens and the next election will be between the Cons and the re-branded Liberals, once again the NDP will get left in the dust.

Genuine question: are NDP supporters and cabinet for the Federal NDP happy or even satisfied with Singh as a leader?

It will be a massive conservative majority with the BQ as the official opposition.
THAT will be Justin Trudeaus legacy.

I think this is the best option. Give people two new competing visions for the country. One with the baggage of the previous government and the other with the baggage of being right wing populists.
This would be far better than the government falling and being left with a choice between the NDP and Cons.

Funny that Trudeau tried to throw Freeland under the bus and hang his crazy spending deficit on her neck and then kick her out for Carney. She plays the Uno reverse card and lights him up in that resignation letter.

What exactly is the sequence of events if he bailed in the upcoming days with no non-confidence vote. Appoints somebody in the interim, leadership convention, House vote?

Quite the interesting collection of thanks there.
*No I don't think the country is literally on fire.
I don't know, seems like quite the calamity today when you have a minute by minute breaking news recap going on by most Canadian media while the Finance Minister job is a hot potato on the day of the fall economic statement, but that's just rhetoric I guess.

I don't doubt that, it seems inevitable, however don't underestimate the resiliency of the Liberal vote. People love to bitch about Alberta but out East there are lots of people who have voted Liberal for generations and are waiting for an excuse to jump back on board if a new shiny toy emerges.
The point was that the NDP had a chance to run against Trudeau and potentially steal a bunch of support and seats from them like they did against Dion/Ignatieff. Their long term goal should be to replace the Liberals as the alternative to the Conservatives but they seem content to be the 3rd party.

I will be a very harsh Pierre critic, despite a friendly relationship with his family on a personal level. I will wait to judge him on how well he does when in an actual governing position. He will need to make major changes from his tone once in government but we will see. Personal prediction is that he won't have the staying power unless he does change specific aspects of his tone.
I will agree with you that I would love Gio for PM! Love that guy, his story and his leadership

Jeebus - you will reserve judgment on him until after he fails to act differently than he has done his whole career, once he gets into in power?
The carbon tax was never going to be popular, so it literally could not be for optics.

Well, thats not strictly true, it was never going to be popular...in Canada, but Trudeau has always been about optics on the international stage.
So making Canadians fall on their swords with Carbon taxation was likely hugely popular internationally.
