Draft capital on the other hand, can be. I don't think they'd need to add one of their top or 6 prospects to make a deal happen. More in line with a Pelletier or a Poirier and perhaps a Stromgren. NJD pick and Poirier should get a deal done
The same Pronman piece I mentioned above has McTavish at 18.

I know Conroy and the Flames like Coronato but if there’s a plan to acquire an impact C under the age of 23 or even 25, you’re going to have to give to get. Not too sure what those pieces you mention above are intended to get you but the Ducks, and all the other teams around the league who might be interested in adding a 21/22 former 3OAC, will have had to have soured on him considerably for that to get you McTavish.

He’s 34 with 4 more years left on his deal after this one. He’s also not the player he was, has toned down his feistiness considerably, which is what made him effective.

I would be gobsmacked if he got a first in a cap world. The track record is vastly different than the player you’re getting at this point.

I'm not speaking about McTavish solely. I'm speaking about any available young center

A 1st and Coronato may get McTavish but I'm not sure if that would be enough for the Ducks. I can't imagine a scenario where Conroy would nix a deal for McTavish because the Ducks want Coronato as a centerpiece. I think Conroy is a better GM than that.

Which are exceedingly rare.

It’s not even clear McTavish is available. Or Colin’s, or Mercer or…..?

ESPN dropped the McTavish rumor yesterday.

Mercer's not. Don't know who Colin's is.

Maybe that's Cozens. Cozens sounds very available with rumors about Buffalo make a shake up.

Zegras is now hurt for 6 weeks but is also available. Verbeeks ask might need to drop before that happens.

I think our super star Centre is still playing in Junior Leagues. Hope we can find him.

Like I said yesterday, if you make a move for this kid, you’re making a trade for your future captain. He’s a beauty.

Yeah, sorry. Autocorrect. Meant Cozen’s.

Cozen’s might be the only realistic option, assuming Buffalo truly has him available. Seems to me they moved Middlestat to clear the way for Cozen’s and has been recently discussed, there’s been a steady stream of players leaving and flourishing elsewhere. What’s Buffalo’s appetite to see that happen again?

Goes without saying they’re under some pretty severe scrutiny locally and league wide. People have been asking for years now, when are these guys going to take a step?

I know it’s been discussed time and again around here, but, I think Buffalo would have interest in Andersson, Coleman, and Kadri but I don’t think the players would want to leave Calgary for Buffalo. Coronato for Cozens? Maybe, but I would ask for an add if I were Conroy and I’m not convinced that type of trade moves the needle for Cozens.

I feel like something around Cozens and McTavish will happen. Obviously Buffalo will need to add due to the big contract he carries.

If the Flames drop into the top ten of the draft, I really am all about two players, Frondell and Ryabkin. I know the rumors of Ryabkin and I know his draft stock is slipping but he's still a Dynamic centerman I'd love to watch develop in CGY.

But Frondell is the dream for me.

Yeah, most teams don't give them away for free. Dach cost the 13th overall pick, plus 66, and McTavish has been much better than Dach at the NHL level. If you don't want to give up a top young player or prospect, you're probably not getting one back. Cutter Gauthier cost Jamie Drysdale, who was still very highly regarded. McGroarty cost Braden Yager.

I wonder if Coronato + Honzek gets it done. That's 2 former mid-1sts for one high 1st. One is tracking well in the NHL now, the other has a lot of potential, size and speed.

Flames would make for a great trade partner for Anaheim - if Anaheim needs good vets, Flames have some. More lottery balls? Flames have that. Prospects with promise? Yep. Young players in the NHL? Yep.

I am sure there is a combination of players + picks that would close the deal IF MacTavish is truly available. It also depends on what his re-signing demands are as well. That would significantly curtail a package for him to the point that you simply give quantity over quality. You always have to consider the contracts - is he adamant about a short-term bridge deal in order to reach UFA quickly? A huge overpay on 8 years? Roster spot/playing demands like some UFA?

Screw it.. let's just bring in both MacTavish and Cozens. They fight in the locker room every morning for #1 C minutes for the rest of the year.

Isn't that what every decent player coming off his ELC now wants?

If you want to eat up UFA years, and have the contract end at an age not advantageous to the player, you'll need to take the risk of a large 8 year contract.

Or basically walk him to UFA.

That's the new way of doing business in the NHL.

The only caveat I'll venture here is that Coronato is a right shot forward; the only noteworthy one in the organization.

Yup, which is why I think a 3-way with BUF and ANA is more realistic than us packaging futures that we don't want to give up.

And if ANA were considering moving McTavish, they would want a good young player in return. Whereas BUF wants some of the things we have.

His name is Caleb Desnoyers.

Unfortunately, he won't make it to us with the season he is having!

Not sure Anaheim would want a young blueliner, though. They have LaCombe, Mintyukov, Zellweger, and Luneau, plus they drafted Stolberg. They're looking at trading Fowler, too, apparently.

Do people watch Cozens play or just want him for his name? The guy looks terrible, Zary looks way better in the last 2 years
