Calgary is clearly better long term without them.
Short term, they may be a better team today, but so what? They still would not have been a contender and they would be even farther away from contending.
Things have worked out for the best.
If we miss on the our first round pick this year, it simply means our young players have likely played better than expected.

Pretty much the way I see it too.

I'm not so sure I would take Lindholm over Huburdeau, given their current performance and contracts. Lindholm is definitely the far better player, but he's underperformed for two years now and he seemed awfully pouty before his trade last year. There were rumours about serious divides in the room last year (and in years prior) and if Lindholm was a part of that/he has an attitude problem (which I don't know) I wouldn't want him anywhere near a rebuilding team.
For all his flaws, Huburdeau has never been accused of being a locker room problem. With the cap going to stratospheric levels over the next few years + the flames not running into cap problems for the foreseeable future, the $3M salary difference isn't that big of a deal. By the time we get to the late 2020s it's highly likely that a $10M salary won't be a large percentage of the cap.
All that to say, I'm not arguing that Huburdeau is worth his contract, he's clearly not, but neither is Lindholm and I'd prioritize having good, positive people in the Flames dressing room while they rebuild. At the same time, I can't say for sure Lindholm is a locker room problem, I'm just speculating, and if he's not then I'd rather have his contract over Huburdeau's.

still remember during the Van/Edm series Stauffer saying that the Nucks took Conroy to the woodshed, and I'm like what?

umm what? The MOST the Canucks can get out of it is 22 points! lol
and not having Kuzmenko on their inept PP against the Oilers cost them a chance to go to the next round.

I'm reminded of the photo of a few Flames players at the beach during their mid-season break a few seasons ago and it showed Lindholm's fitness was less-than-stellar. Indicative of his commitment to competing, IMO.
I take Huberdeau over Lindholm when you consider their respective attitudes and what we wouldn't have in the pipeline if Lindholm hadn't been traded.

Why not use a real name? Are you ashamed to be known? And there are others who have used their names from time to time anyway.

Honestly putting your name out there on a publicly accessible forum by any malicious actor is not a good idea. There has been cases where within minutes people have been able to find social media profiles, home addresses, phone numbers, called in bomb threats, sent SWAT to their house, etc. the depravity of people on the internet with a grudge knows no bounds. Not saying any active poster is that insane but anyone can read this forum.

Lots of people here knew who I was anyway, just by seeing what I'd said in the past about myself. Just as they know who Bingo is.
I'm not worried about reprisals about anything - they'd happen anyway, name or not.

Nurse only has 5 years left on his after this year, runs $9.25M, is buyout proof, and ends when he's 35.
Huberdeau has 6 years left on his after this year, runs $10.5M AAV, is buyout proof, and ends when he's 38.
The age and cap hit difference I think gives Jonathan the edge - but it's probably close.

The Exhibit: Lindholm is neither registering nor attempting shots on goal. His per-game shooting rates are his lowest since he was a 19-year-old rookie playing four fewer minutes per night. Predictably, he’s not scoring either — three goals through mid-December. Woof. The Swede’s offensive game has completely disappeared over the last few seasons.

But a bad winger inflicts a lot less damage to his team than a bad defenseman does. Nurse is a $9.25M penalty. Huberdeau is a $10.5M nothing-happens-burger.
Look at it this way... if Huberdeau were making $4M, people would say 'meh, whatever - he gives us 50 pts'. Nurse making $4M is still a huge defensive liability.

I'd say at the time both contracts were awarded, Nurse's was a worse management decision. Nurse is what he is and most people's jaws hit the floor when he got that contract. Huberdeau's is worse now because of how he fell off. It always going to be a contract that would age poorly, but it was supposed to be OK for at least a few years.

Lindholm flat out quit on the team and was pouting. I am glad to see him struggle.
The team also seemed a lot happier once he was sent packing.

Yeah, I thought at the time that Huberdeau's contract was too long for his age but that's the price of doing business in the NHL. The money was what Gaudreau was offered so it wasn't crazy to me.
Whereas I always thought the Nurse money was bad - their justification was he was their 1C. Which was a dumb justification (like if someone is saying Huberdeau deserves his money because he's Calgary's leading scorer).

Yup. Nurse had one productive year. The Oilers tried to manufacture a top pairing Dman by paying him like one... "dress for the job you want! derp"

Generally agree with you but I'm not sure that, as underwhelming as Huberdeau is, that you can say Lindholm is a far superior player. he has 13 points. TBF he doesn't play with Pasternak but he does play with Marchand.
