Yet he made offers to others. Conroy had a maximum he was willing to pay and did not budge. When players did not sign, he traded them.

But Calgary could have had most of these players still playing for Calgary, if they accepted the offered deals.

The rebuild was more a necessity than a direct strategy.

Which he deserves credit for. He didn’t budge on term or the money. Thankfully all those guys wanted out because truly I don’t want any of them in Calgary with term or salary they wanted.

You can't even say the the rebuild wasn't a direct strategy. For all we know the Lindholm contract offer was a 8x1 contract. Conroy says he tabled an offer to the UFAs and he really doesn't want to trade them so make him a batter offer to force his hand.

Absolutely, by all reports he offered what he thought they were worth and didn't budge.

Its entirely possible that ownership forced him to make offers and Conroy was pleased they did not accept.

Calgary is clearly better long term without them.

Short term, they may be a better team today, but so what? They still would not have been a contender and they would be even farther away from contending.

Things have worked out for the best.

If we miss on the our first round pick this year, it simply means our young players have likely played better than expected.

Yikes.
Honestly, if it was a 1:1 (all things being equal and we are just talking pure stats and skillset, and assuming Lindholm had not soured with the Flames locker room), I'd still take Lindholm, just because Flames are so god awful on face-offs, have a real desperate need for even a decent performing 2 way centre. Their PK this year has been bad, and it's no coincidence it's partly because we have been so bad on face-offs, and are lacking another good two way forward to help take the burden off of guys like Backs and Coleman.

I would take Lindholm in a heart beat. It's not really that close.

Yep, agreed.

I’d do that trade right now.

The Huberdeau contract remains the worst contract in the league in my eyes.

Yeah, this wasn't some come to Jesus moment by management/ownership. It was a slow domino effect that was set course the summer Johnny and Tkachuk left and it became obvious that Huberdeau wasn't even close to the player they thought they were getting.

He might be the most overrated player in CP history! Was always garbage in the playoffs when we needed him most.

I can't believe what we got for him and I can't believe the Bruins gave him that contract.

I'm open to other opinions re: Huberdeau vs Lindholm but neither of those deals is even close to the Darnell Nurse contract.

I agree, that contract hasn't even hit its peak bad.
We are in the salad days of that Huberdeau contract.

It’s only a year later and there are 3 names in there that could haunt them for a while…

The only thing that would have made it better was if Lindholm re-signed in Vancouver and then resigned.

I don't like getting cocky too early when it comes to trades and drafts. Having said that, I'd like it if we traded even more of then with Van than what we already do!

I would take it farther...

Lindholm (VAN)..: 6G, 6A, 12P, 26games, .462PPG
Kuzmenko (CGY): 15G,20A,35P, 56games, .625PPG (and counting)

Even though Kuzy has outperformed Lindholm, and can still return something in trade, let's throw that out, and just look at what's left:

VAN:
nothing

CGY:
Brzustewicz
Gridin
Misa
Jurmo
Jamieson

pretty close, but I think CGY has the edge
