Think its more, teams really need center's and Kadri fills a need.
Flames however, I can't see them moving their #1 center
They have zero depth at this position.

He's 5th on the team in xGF60, and with a bunch of players around 5% in on ice shooting percentage five on five (he's averaged 11% in his career).
I'd suggest he's do for a heater but then so are a half dozen players.
I don't see him as lazy though. Just nothing is working, and he's not shooting the puck ... shots/60 is cut in half vs averages.
|
You would think that eventually a few bounces will go his way but he's on pace for 3 goals this season. Even if he's not lazy, he's not the fleetest of foot and doesn't move the needle much. I was hoping at the very least he could have continued his hot hand on the powerplay but that's not even happening. We didn't hear peep from him after getting benched so at least he's being a good team player but there's just not a lot redeeming about the player when he's not producing points.

Huh I always forget about Sharky, but this is a good suggestion.
I wonder if Sharky+Andersson is the right mix for Byram+Cozens for instance.

Andersson probably has Buffalo on his NTC. Forgot Sharangovich's contract hasn't started yet

Can't speak for Bunting but Carter had issues that Yegor does not have which necessitated, and expedited, his movement.

As for Kuzmenko, wait for him to go on one of his streaks and get what you can at that time.

RW Emil Hemming would be a good name, but he doesn’t fill an organizational need for us, and he’s struggling to put up numbers in the OHL.
|
Saw Hemming at the teddy bear brawl game in Ottawa, he was not noticeable at all. Beaudoin did look like a solid 200 foot 2nd/3rd line center in the making though.

Seriously, there are a few examples of guys signed and then traded within a season. Seguin was extended by Boston but traded before the extension started. Jeff Carter signed a big deal with Philly and was shipped to Columbus 7 months later. Setoguchi, I think. Marco Sturm. Hagelin.

I was talking about an offensive rebound specifically, which seems likely.
Sounds like you're talking about discovering his inner Patrice Bergeron, which I would agree is unlikely.
|
What about the last two years?
No, I'm speaking strictly offence.

But why not?
This is exactly what I keep talking about. We need to throw away our attachment to the way things have been done here. The way things have been done here doesn't work.

This is also why I do t think buffalo will be just giving away cozens. If he is in market there will be multiple teams looking to grab him. If a team thinks he is a solution to being a 2nd line center for the foreseeable future it’s going to cost assets. With rising cap $7 million goi g forward for a 2nd line center is about right. I think it was Paulie saying cozens will need retention. Not a chance.

If the Flames could do some version of the Hertl trade with Dallas it might make sense for both teams. Would allow Dallas to add other pieces
Kadri (20% retained) 2025 3rd and 2026 3rd for
Bourque
2025 1st
Gives the Stars a pretty deep forward group for a run with cap space for another dman, especially if a trade like that happens near the deadline.

He was just signed after being targeted and traded for.
The Flames need to do business a particular way and that isn't it.

Totally disagree. You are entitled to think that way, but again I point to our dogmatic insistence on acting a certain way creating distinct disadvantages for the club over the last 20 years.

I just don't see the Stars giving up both Bourque and a 1st for an older player not having a great year with an expensive long term contract.
I get the retention for 4+ years, but also wonder if the Flames are prepared to do that? I hope they would for that return.

I think Wheatcroft is a much more reasonable target center from the stars. He's a calgarian, he plays center, and he has shown flashes of Offensive power in the past. He's more of a complimentary offensive player than a real all star. Started really strong in the AHL this season but has cooled off.

Speaking of Sharangovich, he has a 10 team NTC in his new contract. Can someone remind me if in the new CBA that no trade extends to this season (the last year of his previous contract)?

Last two years he's still at 165th or a second line player on the average team.
