I'm not necessarily against live action remakes, but when the dragons look exactly the same and everything in the trailer is shot-for-shot to the animated one it feels like... what's the point?
My middle child is a big HTTYD fan so we'll be there anyways

...Are you really not making the connection? Make a movie that will rake in millions without having to do half the work normally involved (script, dialog, scene framing, etc), why wouldn't Dreamworks do this? Their options are to copy the highly acclaimed original 1:1, hear a few grumbles about "why?", and then make a ton of cash. Or try to be more original, change the story, receive immediate backlash from angry internet fans, and probably make less money. Disney already proved which one is more profitable when you look at their Lion King remake vs any of the others that differed somewhat from the original

Oh yes I understand the point financially from the studio perspective, I think my "what's the point?" was from my personal perspective. Disney is doing an even more baffling one with a Moana live action remake soon.
It’s not baffling at all, disneys is going to make as many ####ty iterations of all of these movies because people will pay to go watch them, especially the kids movies.
If you need any indication of how far Disney will go to make a few bucks take a look at the last 30-35 marvel movies that have been produced. Hell 3/4 of the trailers in this thread are marvel movies, I shake my head at it because I think they are terrible and boring yet they make money. Disneys job is to take your money.
Switching to CGI dwarves was definitely the right call.
The actress playing Snow White may have been gagged by the studio for reasons I can't remember--or care enough about to look up--but now that the trailer's out, she isn't the weak link that stands out to me. Instead, it's Gal Gadot. My concern is that this might turn into an Evil Queen movie just as much as a Snow White movie.
See, I dont get these. I dont understand the fascination with Live-Action remakes of successful films.
Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast now Snow White, etc.
These movies killed it. I understand that studios dont have to pay for IP rights and can maybe make a few bucks but how many of these have financially hit it out of the park?
Between production and marketing costs how many of these have made real money? How many have supplanted their animated counter-parts as 'classics?'

Unfortunately, I've seen interviews with Gal Gadot and seen many of her films and while she seems like a very nice person and, lets be honest, very attractive woman, her acting skills?
Not. Great.

How many have made money? Most if not all of them. It generates fresh interest in their IP and several have crossed over $1 billion at the box office.
My kids have grown up so I won’t be watching many of these, but at the time I enjoyed them. Even the less marketed ones like Cinderella were entertaining.
The Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland is famously known as the Disney movie with the best ROI.

Not casting actual dwarves?
That won't sit well with the woke mob.
