Mat Barzal isn't good? I just do not understand how we can both be watching hockey and you can come to that conclusion.
I can understand the injury concerns but this tournament is in February. So I can see being worried about Doughty's timetable but not so much the other guys, who should have at least a month of play under their belt by the time the tourney starts.

Again this isn't difficult. If you don't understand that Robert Thomas is a better hockey player than Anthony Cirelli I just don't know what sport you're watching.

It isn't that black and white. You speak like your opinion is fact and anyone who doesn't share it is an idiot. Maybe just gear down a touch.

What do these teams have in common? They all suck.
What do the acquiring teams have in common? They all won the Cup.
Is there an example of a team trading away a top player for futures that worked out well for the 'selling' team?
|
I don't disagree they were bad trades. But outside of Stone, which of those were top players on their teams? Reinhart was close but that team had Eichel and Dahlin.
As for your question - I'd say Ottawa trading Karlsson for prospects and picks worked out. Philly trading Giroux worked for them. Patches traded by Montreal for propsect Nick Suzuki.
Plus, are we really criticizing Chicago for trading Hagel in 2022 (for a lot IMO) because Hagel won a cup.

On paper...the maybe is because in a 5 game tournament any of those guys can get hot or struggle. These are NHL starters not guys from beer league.

Barzal is always a disappointment and underwhelming to me. Not good is overstating it but while he had a lot of points last year but otherwise, he's been not at a star level player outside of his rookie season. He's in with a bunch of other "not quite PPG" players and he provide zero help at his own end.

I’m willing to bet a lot of coaches in a tight, pressure-packed game would call Cirelli’s number to jump over the boards before they’d call Thomas.

To be fair, Backlund is definitely slowing down a bit. His experience and defensive acumen put him in the conversation, but he's getting old and doesn't add a ton on offense these days.

LOL, Valimaki made the Finnish team! Yet another player given up by the era of Flames management I am probably going to despise the most.

The only guy id put Backlund over is Ardivsson. He is a C and is more reliable on the lesser role and isnt made out of glass. I expect Backlund to be on the team thru injury

He would have to displace one of
Zibanejad
Erikson-Ek
Lindholm
Pettersson
He is no where close to any of them at this point....though I will say that because this thing is in NHL rinks and using NHL rules, he could play a 4th line checking role effectively if needed.

Finns are extremely thin on D throughout their program.
That is not an indictment on Flames management as much as it is on the Finnish national program.
Dude has 1 point this year while playing bottom pair minutes.

My guess is the Finns are looking for speed throughout the line up and Arvidson provides that in spades.

Isn't Arvidsson a Swede?

Interesting seeing the rosters on paper. Sweden looks to have taken a step back, certainly in the forwards ranks. I think I like the Finnish team more.
