True. And I think the powerplay is a great example of how a WJ team can be selected or built differently based on the sheer amount of talent compared to a typical CHL team.

For example, the coach/management of a typical OHL team likely knows their only hope for their powerplay is his top 5 offensive players to click and produce. Has to hope his best offensive defenceman can quarterback his powerplay effectively on any given night.

On a Canadian WJ team, you can build a full roster of guys where any player on that roster can be an offensive force on the powerplay. They likely do it for their own CHL teams. Because of this, you should invite the most talented players and give all of them a shot to make the team. Don’t just decide that you’re going to have Dickinson play the powerplay so there’s no point in bringing Parekh. The same can be true of penalty kills.

No Parekh, Yakemchuk, Iginla, Misa, Sennecke? Not even invites? Completely ridiculous. Management run by clowns.

If you took all your best players you wouldn't have to worry about the PK as much because you'd have the puck 95% of the time anyways.

I would bet that after the team is selected...that you might be able to build a team that would actually be better than the team they pick (excluding goalie since that's such a weak spot).

Iginla, Parekh, Misa, Sennecke, Yakemchuk, Greentree, Bear, Battaglia is already a pretty good start.

Yeah. Is there an expectation this is a 2004 comparable team where they're totally stacked? Seems like a bunch of notable omissions. That's the only explanation that comes to mind.

Just flipped through a bunch of seasoned guys' predictions and Misa, Senneke and Perekh made every list (with Iginla and Yakemchuk on either runner up or close picks). And they are for final roster, not camp. Just weird.

As usual Canada's roster just reeks of interference.
Quite sad actually, I usually love watching WJHC around Christmas and now I'm honestly a bit miffed at the situation and my care level has decreased significantly.

I honestly think that's a totally fair statement.

Iginla - Misa - Sennecke
Bear - Hage - Greentree
Basha - Desnoyers - Parascak
Heidt - Boisvert - Lardis
Battaglia/Finnie

Morin - Yakemchuk
Chadwick - Parekh
Smith - Dupont
Mews/Marrelli

It is weird that Mews is not on the list. He has been very good this year. I would say Pinelli has taken a step back and I am a big fan of the guy. Very strange list of players.

Beau Akey just is not as good as Mews or Parekh, that is just a fact. It is really the same story with Andrew Gibson. Don’t know the non OHL players as well but those two stand out to me. bonk, Schaefer and Dickinson make sense to be there.

Up front Cole Beaudoin is very average imo. There were definitely better players available. Pinelli is also somewhat questionable although I think he is a better junior player than Beaudoin.

Something isn't right here. I wonder if player agents have advised these players to stay away from HC until the media storm clears?

Don't overthink things.

This is what happens when you appoint a guy like Anholt to lead the decision making process. The guy has been around the game for 40 years and has never won a damn thing, nor had any level of sustained success.

Canada management just put so much more pressure on this team and tournament for no reason. If they don’t win gold they will be crucified

Gonna be hard to actively cheer against Canada this year BUT it would be a little funny if they had a terrible tournament after this

Hockey Canada for the WJHC is such a political game it is crazy. Go back years and no college kids or kids from the WHL ever got invited. Then they didn't win for a few years and then they let B. Sutter pick and he took a bunch of WHL kids and kicked everybody.

Hard to call it a World Jrs also without Russia being included but it is what it is.

Since it doesn't seem like Russia will be participating anytime soon.
They should just have a ROW dark horse team of notable omissions
