Yet again a drivers rant. Calgary drivers suck. It's feels like a mix of 85% strugglers and 15% who are able to drive with confidence or know where they are going. I'll take driving in Vancouver, LA, Tokyo (hell anywhere else) any day over this garbage.

We’re all to polite too. An ####### in a giant Boomermobile was trying to turn left from 4th St onto 12th Ave SW despite the sign saying no turn. The people behind him just sat there, meanwhile I’m stopped at the light on 12th and I’m honking and flipping him off. Get some balls, people.

But DownInFlames, it's his ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO TURN!!!!1! It's not as though streets connect to each other, if they don't turn there then they're doomed to drive straight down 4 Street SW forever!

Theres a road closure nearby. Theres signs telling you that road is closed before you get to it. It has completely broken a number of the strugglers who get to the closure and then are at a loss of what to do...other than something stupid.

The 1 sock that goes missing during laundry. Always the 1 sock! You literally find cash and coins in the laundry a lot of times but never the 1 sock.

Always with the cash! An emergency $100 USD and 100 EUR bill in the wallet for out of country travel. I can't even tell you how many times it has gotten me out of some jams.
The business actually still has old fashion phone, 2 mobile phones on different carriers. Credit card imprinter and old fashion slips available for use during power outages, POS breakage, network issues or whatever.
I literally just tried booking a flight and some network issue either with the airline or the credit card company or the 3rd party site (did this 4 various times/sites) has an issue. Took screen shots and will have them printed off in paper form if and when an issue arises with "flight was not booked or multiple charges"
Stuff happens and backup planning makes things a lot easier

On the heels of the litany of Black Friday emails for every #### ass company you’ve dealt with for the last year comes the Cyber Monday deals. They are the neglected ugly cousin of the marketing world. Nobody cares Saxx underwear, if I haven’t moved to purchase after the 7th email since Thursday, the eight isn’t gonna do the trick. Kindly PFO.

I recently needed cash to buy a breakfast sandwich in Toronto. Harrowing times. Not sure what I’d have done if there wasn’t an ATM just meters away. I could have starved.

What kind of jam does $100 get you out of?
And good luck with those screen shots at the airport.

i always have cash on me... usually around $100
i also have cash hidden in my truck... tow truck drivers LOVE cash!
my gear grinder - last monday i replaced a burnt out light bulb... but not just any burnt out bulb, one that requires the extension ladder extended as far as it can go. the light is in the ceiling of the staircase so it's a little sketchy getting the ladder to where it's "safe enough" to do the job.
yesterday (6 days later) i hit the light switch and the bloody bulb blew and now i get to do it all over again

There is a phycological element in business transactions with cash and cash in hand for deals. Cash allows something to be done on the spot a lot of times, bypassing delays. Sure you may not have starved at Toronto's airport but if you had an issue with the bank, POS or your card, are they going to sit around and bend over backwards to assist when the guy next in line has an order and a $20?
Prices for some things from business owners directly have a way of changing so to speak with cash. You would be amazed at how often drinks/ food are given complimentary as a regular paying and tipping with cash to getting work done at the home or buying products.
Cash and cash equivalents in business deals for day to day things like buying a home, renting an apartment, buying a used car. I have told friends in tight housing situations, up your cash deposit for a home from a pathetic $5 or 10k. Bring a cash deposit for an apartment to the landlord. It's competitive out there and you need to be ready.
I am a heavy credit card user as well but cash/cash like payments have a way of getting more results.

I always have a little cash in the car, most of the time its coin for car washes, but sometimes its handy to be able to sprinkle some coins on the pavement when you need to distract the vagrants and get into the liquor store!
Then it becomes a race. Can you purchase your goods and get back to the car before all the coin is gone...this is the 'Real American Gladiator' Challenge.

Obviously smaller ones but $100 USD/EUR is approx $150 CAD.
It's the little things like getting something to eat or buying some basic groceries. Fuel in case of a card issue. Things are magnified all the time now with mobile payments and people not having a basic wallet and cards. In a lot of countries they pick pocket like crazy phones and more, what happens when you have access to nothing?
People have problems all the time with their cards or go to foreign countries with expectations that everything works the same as a wealthy countries financial system.
Even here in Canada we have issues. Scotiabank had payroll concerns for a number of clients. If you actually don't have access to cash or cash payments, you don't realize how concerning it can be.
People discount these things all the time but Rogers had a massive outage 2 years ago that affected people in many many ways. We had the 2008 financial crisis where things got very close to the point where ATM's almost went dry and milk wasn't on the store shelf. That was from either the Treasury Sec. (Hank Paulson) or Fed Chair (Bernanke).

The best part is it's literally just the exact same sales they've already been running for two weeks for 'Black Friday', which will also continue in to next week for 'early Boxing Day deals'.
