Don’t disagree, but I’d rather a couple picks than more guys we have on the farm.
Flames drafted well last year, let’s keep that rolling.
With that said I don’t exactly ever anything to happen anyway.

The cap part of a Kadri trade is difficult, because the Leafs are in LTIR, and the Flames are close to the floor. But I think a deal might work if the Flames sent Kadri and the Leafs sent Domi (IR) and a couple picks? This would save the Flames 3.25 against the cap for the next 4 years. Another couple obstacles are Kadri has a no move, and Domi has a 13-team no trade list.

Zach Werenski is 7 years older. 7. It is not like Columbus, a worse team, is going to fire sale him for a hope and a prayer. It is not like Weegar is getting worse anytime soon. And it is far more unlikely that Wright will ever be as good as Weegar currently is.
The idea that the Flames should trade a top 25 dman in the league on a good contract for some magic beans because “rebuild” is ridiculous.

Agreed, they don’t even have any real bad term contracts to send back.

Kadri is settled in Calgary, and has stated that he wants to stay. The only realistic team that I could see him waiving for is Colorado, as there is significant positive history there.

I think if push came to shove that Kadri would embrace going back to TO.
It ended poorly and he hates the media there...but I think in the end he would relish trying to go back and put that team over the top come playoff time

You’re confused. I didn’t say the Flames should trade Weegar. I don’t think they should, nor do I think Seattle would give that type of package up for Weegar. You’ve missed the point.
I asked why would Seattle trade Wright and a first, or a list of prospects which included Catton who was just selected one pick before what many are regarding our own top ranked prospect, for Weegar. It makes no sense for Seattle. That would be like saying the Flames should trade, say, a first round pick and a top prospect for a 30 year old center. No thanks. Nor does it sound like Conroy is interested in doing anything close to that.
I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s a trade that will never happen anyway. It wouldn’t make sense for either side.

Yeah, his family is from the GTA, his old friends are still on the team, and he can play more of a leadership role. Plus Dubas is gone. No doubt he'd welcome a move back there. I just personally don't see it considering they have Reeves playing that role, but doesn't score. Carolina I could see pushing for his services at some point, plus the Flames have a trading partner history there. Not sure their young assets in return but I don't think Kadri with that contract fetches a 1st. 2nd and a 4th maybe?

Insert meme of
Stop trying to Kadri happen
It ain’t happening.
We have cap space, he’s a Stanley cup winner, a center and wants to be here.
Shut up about Kadri

If he wants to stay then he needs to get on the same page as his teammates and start being a positive contributor to what the team is doing by committee.
I believe he's by far the most minus player currently and I don't think it's a fluke.

Not a superstar and I doubt Treliving would give him up but I think Minten will turn into a really good 2nd/3rd line C

Is it fair to say any deals with the Leafs will only happen if the Leafs throw in a sweetener, given Treliving’s connection? It just seems like on paper we’re good trading matches for needs, but Tre has to pay up in premium ways.

That would be ridiculous and petty. Hypothetically, if the Flames were to trade Kadri for whatever reason and the Leafs made the best offer, the Flames would be foolish to take less simply because of any hard feelings.
It’s a business, not a school yard spat.

2026 first and Minten should give the Flames something to think about.

I would take either of those alone if the Leafs take Kadri with no retention.

Yea, but that wouldn’t happen.
Start the car if that’s the deal, but from I’m told Brad is going full Trewizard on this “want”
I expect the offer to look like:
David Kampf and a 3rd for Kadri.

Thats comical, Tre can be his so-called wizard self elsewhere. Although he has had a tougher start to the season than he would like, he still is very effective, and I expect that to turn around.

Agreed. If Treliving really wants Kadri, he can pay a fair price for him. I don’t think the flames are in any rush to trade him - especially with how well the team is playing and how much the flames need centres in the organization.
I know things change as the season goes along and more players become available… but what centres are likely to be available in trade this year leading up to the deadline? Are they better than Kadri? What will they cost to acquire in comparison to Kadri? I’m not asking for the Flames to acquire - I’m asking based on what options Treliving will have if he’s not willing to pay a fair price for Kadri. This year, teams like Chicago, San Jose and Anaheim either don’t have those players to trade or are no longer looking to tear down because they want to start getting better.
I suppose the leafs could go after Cozens… also signed long term to what, right now, looks like a bad contract. But is only 22 years old so the age problem isn’t there. He has the potential to pop in a new situation. However, the cost to acquire would be more than Kadri. I think Buffalo would require Cowan + 1st round pick.
