Kind of amazing what Mitchkov has done, he might be one of the worst skaters I have ever seen.

Yeah. Guys like Mitchkov, Cellebrini and Stankoven will get more attention from the American sports writers so that puts Wolf in a tougher position to win the Calder - even though Wolf is having the more impressive season so far and is American himself.

Any chance Wolf goes to the Four Nations? That would raise his profile quite a bit.

If he was Canadian - absolutely. Canada is desperate for a goaltender to step up. But the Americans have so many quality goaltenders that I doubt he gets a shot. He would have to go on an epic run and I don’t think there is enough time - rosters are being announced in early December I believe.

Helley
Oettinger
Swayman
are almost all locks. Only way Wolf gets in at #3 is if one of them gets hurt I think. And even then Demko may be back

And Quick even. The US is loaded with quality goaltending. I think Wolf should be considered if he keeps playing this way but I understand if he’s not. There’s just so many options for them.

Good points. I haven't been tracking it that closely to see if the usual American suspects were performing up to standards this season.

I wonder if Wolf gets the nod as a 3rd goalie for experience being the young guy, knowing he wouldn't play much if at all.

I am bullish on trading Vladar or Cooley.
Whichever gets better futures.

If he was canadian he might actually be the starter..

Bottom line is if you play for the Flames it’s a huge uphill battle to get the attention and recognition you deserve.
Sportsnet devalues the Flames franchise. Flames would be literally worth more if Rogers didn’t have the tv contract. Obsession with McDavid kills the Flames, less attention, tv time, etc.
Same for the Jets…the best team in the NHL and one would have no idea if they didn’t follow hockey much.

100%. The love affair with the Oilers is absolutely disgusting

It's possible - one of the older contenders might not want to go just to sit (remember everyone else gets a holiday).
Seravelli was saying this am that getting players to be alternates is especially hard because they have to put all vacation plans aside for a call up that might not happen, and if it doesn, they end up as black aces.

They'll trade Vladar and keep Cooley for next year. Pretty simple.

If it goes as high as $97 million (as Friedman suggested last week), the floor would be just under $72 million.

I watched him vs the Wranglers in last years playoffs. he was not very good.
McCormick and the refs kicked our asses though.

Yeah, at the beginning of the season it's absolutely right that guys playing in US markets, especially a first overall pick and the next Russian superstar, are going to get the attention. But if Wolf keeps playing like he has and keeps winning big market games, he won't be overlooked.
Phaneuf was in the running with Ovechkin and Crosby for the Calder during his massive rookie year and got a huge amount of attention. Funny enough, a certain 23-year old future hall-of-fame goalie finished fourth in calder voting that year.
