My position is that the Flames should develop the centers they draft in the 1st round into centers. They have an odd tendency for drafting centers, playing them at wing, then running into center depth issues, and trying to convert these former centers back years later. Now these players have been playing wing for years and struggle, and the Flames, always impatient, immediately stop the experiment and look for trades instead

The problem is only a fraction of players listed as centres in junior actually project to be centres at the NHL level. That's why it's so often a debate about whether a guy is an NHL centre or not - even when you are talking about guys taken in the top 10. Teams often are drafting a centre already realizing that they are going to be wingers at the NHL level. It's not a Flames issue.

Maybe Kadri needs to play with the kids again? Pospisil and Zary?

They've been his line mates for a few games prior to the last one. It wasn't working. Pops lost his mjoj from last year and Zarys been great but things just weren't clicking.
Pops also lost his center spot what.....6 games ago? So they've been a line since Pops lost the center spot.

Kakko is having a decent start to the year. Too bad we couldn't snag him.

As dumb as it sounded back then, even PL Dubios. Look at Necas go.
I’m sure Conroy is looking at the Frosts and even Dachs, but finding a center that was is pretty damn hard. Gotta invest in your own.

Totally. But this is why I was really hoping we would take a crack at guys that were buy low candidates. Kakko, Necas, and now Cozens. It's always a risk but I feel like we are at a perfect state to take these type of risks on younger, high ceiling, non performing players. Especially ones that have yet to be traded.

To be fair, the issue on this board is not so much the number of posters but the need of a few posters to repeat and repeat their feelings on a player. So when a player comes up it turns into 4 or 5 posters going back and forth with the same points for pages.

The question is are teams going to publicly say they are desperate for a goalie. Colorado can say whatever they want but they will cook their season with those sieves in net.

LeBrun believes Gibson would have a good amount of value, particularly with the cap rising and if Anaheim retains salary. He also mentioned people like to think Gibson is 37, but he’s 31. There are executives around the league who believe he is a very good goalie.
Interesting to see how/if this affects what the Flames might do. If Carolina is thinking Kotchetkov is their guy would Vladar with retention be of interest? I’d have to think so base on how they appear to value goaltending.
Does Vladar for a second get it done? Vladar for Kotkeniemi? Other pieces involved too in a bigger deal? Does Andersson fit there?

How does Edmonton keep getting added as potential suitors for players? T
Gibson makes $6.4MM, there is zero chance to make that work. If they retain 50% they are going to want to a real asset, Edmontons 1st????
These type of articles get really old. The Flames are interested in Conor Bédard as well, might as well publish that. Same likelihood of happening.

Yeah if Gibson was on the final year of his Deal I could see Edmonton being a possibility, But I can't see how really Carolina, Colorado, or Edmonton can fit him in for a few more years. Edmonton has nothing to assets, so that will never happen, Anaheim isn't going to give him away.

It’s not uncommon for players who are Cozens age to have an up-and-down development path. The Sabres would be dumb to give up on him now.
Necas
Age Points
20 36
21 41
22 40
23 71
24 53
25 On pace for 90+
Cozens
20 13
21 38
22 68
23 47
24 On pace for 34

Looks they rode high shooting % to career years. If they come back to earth, Necas is probably the better and more consistent player.

Ya Necas has a higher career shooting percentage. Cozens is closer to a Coleman or Backlund shooting percentage.

As SuperMatt pointed out his underlying metrics are pretty bad as well, he is not a play driver which is what your C to be. So, he may not even be a Backlund he is a putrid 44% in faceoffs.
I mean someone needs to find something he does well outside of being big.
The Bruins fired their coach because they decided to sign two non-play driving centers to lead their top 2 lines.
