From 150 feet away because he blew the zone?

Yeah I don't know what his sportsmanship level would be in that situation given that it's one of those coveted individual stats.

They are 33 and 43 games away for the Caps after tonight. After tonight's 2 goals (so far), he is 32 goals away from breaking the record.

31 away from tying the record with 68 games to go. 32 to break it.

Last game of the season is against the Pens. That would be neat.

Its fascinating and we as fans are so lucky.

Crosby is, IMO, the most complete, amazing player ever. I know people disagree, but this guy has it all.

Compete level, wins faceoffs, lethal backhand, vision, leadership all of it. IMO the GOAT.

I think Crosby is probably the greatest player to ever lace 'em up.

Ovechkin? The single most lethal goal-scorer of all time. He's going to break a seemingly unbreakable record and he's going to do it in modern time against modern goalies and modern defensemen.

That record was seen as untouchable because the game had changed so much but he's gonna smash it.

And we got to watch them both at the same time. They've both got awards, cups, you name it.

Just unreal.

Yup, agree with your assessments on both players. I love watching Penguins games and just iso-camming on Sid. The guy does so many things all over the ice. A true definition of a complete player. I think he also recently broke some record around faceoffs? He either has won the most in NHL history or Penguins history?

But yeah, nobody can score like OV. There was a post earlier about how that poster was frustrated how OV keeps scoring from his office when it's totally stoppable. It's not. Coaches and players are smart and they literally deploy strategies to prevent the guy from scoring! Don't matter, OV gonna score anyways.

Crosby is really quite good, but I don't think he's even the best penguin ever. Lemieux was as good, if not better, in every category and was 6'4" vs 5'11". He was ridiculous. When he returned in 2000-01, he was the best player in the NHL even though he didn't play for years. If not for injuries, I feel like it would have a been a coin toss on whether he or Gretzky was the best ever (I still feel Mario was better).

I think Crosby is firmly below Gretzky and Lemieux, in the same tier as Howe, Jagr, Yzerman, and Sakic as the best of the best forwards all time.

I agree we were lucky watching two of the top 10 forwards of all time at the same time for their entire career. Just amazing players.

Mario was better offensively than Crosby. Mario is probably the best offensive player ever, but yes injuries and cancer did him in.

The argument is that Crosby is the most complete player ever. And it's really hard to argue that. Wayne was a floater in his own zone. Hell, defensemen were floaters in their own zone back then.

Ovechkin absolutely is the greatest goal scorer ever. The goalies Wayne was shooting at vs the goalies Ovi is shooting at is not even a comparison.

According to nhl.com (https://records.nhl.com/records/skat...goals-career):

Gretzky scored 894 goals in 1487 games.
Ovi scored 866 goals in 1443 games.

Can Ovi score another 29 goals in 44 games. which will beat Gretzky as the fastest scorer to break the record ever?

Edit: At this current rate (0.76 goal per game), Ovi needs 39 more games to score 29 goals to break the record.

tbf Gretzky got to 862 goals in 1335 games; and 803 goals in 1125gp. He barely scored in his last 5 seasons.

Ovi got to 803 goals in 1312 gp.

Just an absolute machine.

Whatever else you want to say...its damned impressive.

Again, Ovie is the purist most absolutely lethal goalscorer of all time.

I hope he fails though. Would rather the record stay with an Oiler than go to a Putin-lover.
