Yeah, I went through my list of Twitter follows and very few of the sports accounts exist on Bluesky right now. Pretty much 0 for the Flames.

Yeah, even the NHL and Flames don't seem to have official accounts.

We need to at least get the media who regularly post here to join.

Ontario provincial government has awarded Elon with a $100M deal to bring Starlink to the province, which is slated to provide Internet access to 15,000 remote premises.

Premier Doug Ford's government has signed a $100-million deal with Elon Musk's SpaceX to deliver high-speed internet to remote residents in rural and northern Ontario.

Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma says the new so-called ONSAT program will bring SpaceX's Starlink high-speed satellite internet system to 15,000 premises.

Starlink is the best rural internet option and it isn't even close.
I disagree with his politics, but damn is that better internet than xplornet.

Yup, extreme dislike of Musk and his antics, but it's Starlink or nothing for myself and 90% of all rural residents.

Starlink was a lifesaver up North.

The ONLY way to get decent internet.

Fortunately there are several competitors in the running. Soon it won't be the only good option.

Did the feds just award 2B to Telesat too? Why, when a potentially cheaper and better option is out there (maybe it wasn't)?

It is a loan, and will create jobs in Canada and maintain and attract valuable knowledge workers. I mean, I guess we could just give Elon Musk more money, but this seems like a better option.

The hockey Twitter migration to BlueSky is growing every day (and I’ve only been there a few days). Flames reporters like Ryan Pike, Aaron Vickers, Danny Austin, Flames Nation are posting. There’s also Flames adjacent folks like Julian Mackenzie and Hailey Salvian, and NHL reporters like Rob Rossi, James Mirtle, Down Goes Brown, Sean Gentille, Frank Seravalli and others. Even Derek Wills.

I deactivated my X account. I mainly used it for my hockey list, but even that wasn’t worth it. Such a dark place. Bluesky has early Twitter vibes, way more positive!

You could already get it though… I know lots of people who have it already.

I just deleted X off my phone. US election in 2020 is when I finally deleted Facebook and I can’t stand X right now. I just downloaded Bluesky so we will see how that goes. My algorithm got so messed up on Twitter that I don’t think I can get it back to a spot where I can avoid political crap

Plus nerds like me! Give it a week and my Twitter will likely be deactivated — I've already locked my account. BlueSky is much better.

I deleted my account from Twitter immediately after it was sold.

I registered on BlueSky yesterday and am following a lot of Iggyloob’s suggestions - thanks for that.

I’m going to be very careful managing my algorithm.

BS doesnt have an algorithm in the way you are thinking. You dont get pushed posts or feeds the same way. And no disastrously dystopian 'For You' scroll (why anyone ever scrolled that i will never know)

Well, Telesat's Lightspeed for one, and Amazon's Kuiper. There is also Europe's OneWeb. There are several other smaller companies as well. It's too lucrative not to have competition in this space, and Starlink isn't doing anything someone else can't do too. Obviously none of these have currently caught up to Starlink, but that's why I said "soon" and not now.

it's also worth noting that Starlink is a $500 install for private homeowners, so $100,000,000 for 15,000 homes is laughably bad. Literally a 13x bloated cost government contract.

If Ford actually gave a #### and wasn't just trying to let Elon feed at the trough they would just subsidize individual installs and recoup Homeowners that claim.

Not sure if posted yet but hiring is up for DOGE - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/elon-mu...-how-to-apply/

Quote:
"We need super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries willing to work 80+ hours per week on unglamorous cost-cutting."
Quote:
The post didn't specify the salary range or benefits, but Musk said in a separate post that the 80-per-week job pays "zero."

"Indeed, this will be tedious work, make lots of enemies & compensation is zero. What a great deal!" Musk wrote.
From what I read, the only way to apply right now is if you are registered on X. That seems legit.
