Yeah, like you said, no kidding. Everyone knows the streaky scorer will go on a hot streak.. the point is when he's not hot he's absolutely useless and that isn't attractive for a playoff team. Unless a guy like him his going to outproduce the huge flaws in his game, like he did in 2022-23, those hot streaks aren't worth the rest of it.

Thing is I don't think he's been a liability defensively this year.
He's been given the offensive high ground (60%+ offensive zone starts) which makes the production a bit disappointing.
But his 55.7% xGF is first on the team with pretty healthy 2.8 xGF per 60 (4th best) and 2.2 xGA per 60 (3rd best).
He's not like he's getting destroyed and giving up a ton while not producing. He like much of the team are playing pretty responsible defensive games but struggling to generate offense consistently.

WPG manages their franchise much like CAR: they know they don't have the budget, or the location/cache to attract UFAs, so they have to keep their picks, and develop within. Which they have done a very good job of, and it has served them well.
However, at some point, you have to go for it. And you have to think that, with Helly, Connor, Scheifele, Morrisey, Ehlers, and others, all in their primes, and the team being off to an historic start, THIS is the year to push the chips in.
That makes them a perfect trading partner for the Flames, re Andersson.
The Jets have been trading picks for players for several years now.
Monahan - 1st
Toffoli - 2nd and 3rd
Niedereitter - 2nd
Dillon - 2x 2nds
Hayes - 1st
So in the last five years, that’s 2 x 1st round and 4 x 2nd round picks out the door, mostly for rentals.
I agree that they might want to push all their chips in this season to go for it with this core. But they’ve been pushing chips in for a while now.

Could we imagine re-signing Anderson and trading Weegar??
If Weegar is voicing an interest to move on behind the scenes, and Anderson is voicing his desire to stay, maybe the plan will be flipped??
What would Weegar's value be on the market??
You have it backwards. Weegar wants to be in Calgary. He is the next Captain of this team. Andersson from what rumblings I have heard is a guy open to moving on.

Only way I'm touching Dvorak is if he comes with the 2025 first back. He is awful.
He has no term and is making $4.4M
He was great in junior, had showed promise in Arizona, and it just hasn't worked since day 1 in Montreal.
For the next 6 months it could be worth a flyer. Best case you have another asset that can be moved at the deadline, worst case he's a UFA at the end of the year.

Could see Andersson to Winnipeg but the return would be the issue. I don’t see Yager as the impact center this team needs, I think his ceiling is 2nd line center (and certainly nothing wrong with that). I think he would have to come with another asset to sweeten that deal imo.
Having said that it is all about what the market is for him that drives the price.
Yeah. I’d be fine with a future 2nd line center as the main piece in an Andersson trade. The flames hopefully use the draft to get their #1 center. A solid 2nd line center from an Andersson trade would be great IMO. Would love for Winnipeg to add in this scenario as well. I think a return of Yager + 2025 1st round pick would be a great return… even though the 2025 1st round pick is likely to be outside the top 25.

Yeah, wasn't Rasmus quoted recently as saying he'd be pissed if he didn't win something in his career. Out of context? Did I imagine it?
Seems to be the most amount of smoke around him as related to vets wanting out of the rebuild. Flames are a leaky ship these days, so probably safe to trust those rumours.

That would be a great return, not sure we get that though. Likely would have to retain on our end to make that work for the Jets. 2026 1st would be better.
Sec, Royal9……. Any smoke or discussions around Ras or all quiet?

He was talking about the exhibition series coming up in February. The one with 4 teams lol.

I’d be fine with full retention if that was the return. Not my money of course so it’s easy to say that. The flames have two retention spots available and, with Mantha done for the year, the only one they would really need to retain on is Kuzmenko. To me, next year is the year where there are hopefully just as many young players on the team as vets. I would not prioritize having veteran players on one year contracts with the intention of flipping them at the deadline next season… that means the flames won’t need many retention spots for trades next season - and really the only one they would need would probably be someone like Coleman next year if he did not want to re-sign.
I wonder what Pittsburgh’s plans are this season? If they plan to break out of their struggles before it’s too late to salvage the season, I think they might need some better goaltending. Would Vladar be a good fit? The flames have Cooley looking really good in the AHL so they have an obvious replacement for Vladar if a team paid a decent price for Vladar. I don’t what the return for a Vladar would be - maybe a 3rd round pick?
