It's Top 12 protected actually.

I guess you didn't. I was just extrapolating that if they're so bad this year that they keep the pick, then surely they'd be giving up an equally high pick with the unprotected 1st the following year, given that they have such limited cap to improve their roster this offseason.

Imagine that you don’t pick until 64. Imagine that you sent the 31st pick away for Henrique. Imagine that you are the smartest in the room. So, you want a player ranked in the 50s who won’t be there at 64. What to do?
Swap your 2025 top 12 protected pick (unprotected 2026) for the last pick in the first round of course. No matter what, oilers will not be giving up a worse pick because there isn’t a worse pick in 2025 or 2026. How bad of a gamble won’t be known for a season of course but mathematically it’s not a better pick.
This approach locks both 2025 and 2026 first round picks until math determines if it’s top 12 or not.
It’s hard to believe that the oilers couldn’t get a 2nd round pick.
That’s why e=ng.

I am pretty sure the Oilers wanted the last pick in the 2024 daft just so that years from now, some people might see that the Oilers had the last pick in the draft and assume they won the Cup that year.

After a hot night last night, Connor McDiver is only one goal back of Matt Coronado.

I asked Alexa if the oilers would win the stanley cup this year. She said " The oilers will not make the playoffs this year and will be basement dwellers the next 2 seasons"

Based upon rate of pay, that’s a scandal. Referees best do all they can to fix that.

<---- no good!
If the Oilers continue to limp along, I can see them moving Boo-Boo at trade deadline. At an estimated $10 million/yr extension they might as well bail out on him.

Zero chance. All Katz sees is the next Paul Coffey with his childhood infatuation with the Oilers. They will attach multiple future picks to Nurse to move him if they have to in order to sign him.
Nurse could likely go on to be a decent defenseman for someone else.

During training camp, much of the focus was set on 2024 first-round pick Sam O’Reilly as he had a prolonged stay with the Oilers in preseason before being sent back to the London Knights. A big season was expected of O’Reilly, but it has been his Knights teammate Nicholl who has garnered more attention.
A seventh-round pick of the Oilers’ last draft, Nicholl has managed to put up 19 points in the first 17 games of the OHL season. That includes a three-point effort against the Guelph Storm on Sunday afternoon.
|
First-rounder Sam O'Reilly may not be developing as advertised, but fear not Oilers fans... seventh-rounder William Nicholl to the rescue!!
Thus starts the Schrempification of William Nicholl.

They'd never do anything to sabotage their pre-destined return to the finals.
Even if that means walking him to FA.

You shut your vile bitch mouth!! Nurse is NOGOOD forever!! He is of the filth. He will never be clean of the stink. Some can get away. Some can get clean. Some will never lose the stench until they burn in the firey filth that is the garbage fire from which they were born.

Utter nonsense. One of the great joys is seeing players perform terribly with the Oilers and then move on to excel elsewhere. As a testament to how terrible the Oilers organization is. The list is long and extensive, going all the way back to Miroslav Satan in the 90's.
If Nurse ever left the Oilers I'm cheering for him to win the Norris, Hart, Art Ross and anything else that would be a massive middle-finger to the Oil. That would be funnier than Hall beating McDavid for the Hart Trophy.

What's cringier, the video with Katz and McDavid (you know the one), or McDavid screeching at his teammates like an upset toddler?

Hahahahahaha, that’s awesome. My bad and my apologies. I do however get significant joy watching players flourish upon leaving Coilerville…… Dubnyk, Petry, Hall, and now the latest group of Foegele, McLeod, Broberg and Holloway.
