You can’t have hockey without skate blades
You can have hockey without fighting

So if Iggy dropped dead because of CTE related issues would you feel differently?

Hockey shouldn't be played at all then. No physical sport should be .
Statistically body hits do more damage than fights do.

No, I wouldn't.
They signed contracts worth multiple millions to say they accept the risks.
Just like I go to work everyday and will never see 5% of what they made in a year to do a.much more dangerous job. It's part of what they signed up for

Well I also think body checking needs to evolve further away from big hits but that’s a different debate
Again though it’s easy to ban hockey and keep the sport otherwise intact
Hockey doesn’t need fighting

With this train of thought, they never should have invented seatbelts or airbags to make cars safer?
The world has changed since the NHL decided a fight should be worth 5 minutes in penalties. You don’t think they should change that stance?

So you’re saying they’re paid enough so that they should be excluded from the scientific findings that brain trauma = bad?

Repetition.
If two guys happen to blow their stack at each other and trade punches, that's not likely to happen to the same players game after game. It's the cumulative impact that really tells on the brain.

Hockey dosen't need anything hitting they don't need the glass around the boards , just make it so you can shoot a certain way.... etc etc You can play that game all day.

Actually airbags have been shown to create alot of extra head trauma. Seat belts and no airbags make more sense.
Who said excluded from Science findings? I just said the accepted they risks for a price like we all do.

Are we proposing to remove body contact then? Far more concussions from body contact than fighting.

I believe that is what, in politics, is known as a ‘Kinsley gaffe’.

They’ve changed the rules on hitting pretty significantly in the last 20 years or so.
They haven’t changed the rules on fighting much at all (other than I guess if a 2nd fight breaks out those players are then kicked out of the game?). I guess they also said they don’t want players taking their helmets off before a fight?
It’s weird that they’ve made significant changes to one, and not the other.
Even making the rule change to “if you fight, you get an auto-game misconduct” would go a long way.

Technically floor hockey is still hockey... I kid... mostly.
Serious question though. Would you ban hitting from hockey? I say this because you don't really need hitting in hockey at all because you can separate the puck from player with your stick. Some of the best defensemen and players of all time barely hit. Physical contact via checking/tackling is not really needed in any sport aside from football where tackling is the only way to stop the other team from advancing the ball.
Now that staged fights are gone (100% agree with this) I would imagine that body checks are a far greater threat for head trauma than a random fight here and there. If you're worried about head trauma this would be higher priority than the random fight. There is no fighting allowed in football and I am pretty sure they have a much bigger CTE problem than the NHL.
