Coronato shouldn’t be down at the moment. He’s a victim of contract status of lesser players/organizational choices that aren’t directly related to on ice performance.

It’s a Flames misstep, and players (and their agents) generally have to look out for themselves. Nature of the business.

I don’t see anything particularly shocking on any front. If the Flames don’t address it over time, then I could see things taking a turn for the worse. The glut of mediocre/irrelevant forwards on the roster does need to get dealt with at some point.

Doesn’t help that he’s in a contract year and unable to prove himself further to earn a bigger contract. Probably why the agents aren’t happy.

Maybe if he played better he would get a chance.

That’s what Major Major wanted the trade to be. I am not saying it was ever out there, it just didn’t need to be in the lane of hypotheticals. The pick was known to be the 10th

That’s the thing - he has played well, and pretty decisively so in recent games over some others.

Coronato’s underlying numbers are some of the strongest on the team. He should be playing ahead of some others.

Keep Coronato, draft a C at this years draft.

Strong start aside, we should still end up with a top 10 pick.

We will need guys like Honzek and Coronato to fill top 9, hopefully top 6, spots as we cycle out older guys in the coming years.

Maybe it's the org speaking out both sides of its mouth.
I think this one is pretty simple. He needs to take the spot from Mantha to stay up or go develop more in the AHL. They waived Pelletier to give Honzek and Klapka a spot after they earned it in the pre-season so it isn’t all lip service. Coronato also played 34 games last year and was getting some decent ice time in the top 6.

Anyhow, this is simply how the Flames will need to build under a pick volume model. Turn over assets, draft well and use good but not elite prospects as trade bait.
Not controversial, it was just CP folklore where you guys start talking about something and then use each other as confirmation that it's possible because "everyone's talking about it". Happens every year where you guys talk each other into thinking we'll get so much for our players. 10 OV was never realistic even if we put forth our best package let alone the garbage many on CP where packaging for it. You guys were willing to give Markstrom + a decent prospect like Coronato....AND some were poo pooing that as too much! That's ridiculous for a 10th OV.

HIs play isn't the issue. He is a victim of a #'s game.

If Sharangovich doesn't get injured, I think Coronato was sent down anyways with Honzek getting the 4th line minutes.

Mantha seems to be back to being Mantha after a hot start. Not sure what his value is on the market at the deadline, but if it isn't going to improve and his play doesn't improve, I would look at dealing him earlier.

Coronato has gotten a taste and being pissed about being sent down should be useful motivation to come up just like Zary.

Yes he played better than multiple forwards who are still with the team. That could be one point of frustration for the agent.

Well, I don't think the Flames signed Mantha with the intention of trading him during camp.

When you look at the lineup it was clear that it was likely 4th line roles available, and the top 6 would open up after we traded guys.

Huh? He’s played very well, his corsi alone would have him up full time.
He’s played better than a number of forwards, sadly his 2 way status is the only reason he was sent down.

Attitude like this is problematic, and I got the sense that this short track to the NHL was in play for coronato a few years ago. He made comments even back at his first training camp that seemed geared this way. Hard to tell between rookie bluster and the confidence needed to make the league anyways vs cocky.

I think he played fine, but didn't really move the needle while up with the big club. He's certainly not deserving of staying up over other players. If he can't deal with that reality then he should be on the way out too.

Goodness let's pump the brakes. He hasn't said anything. All that happened was his agent re-tweeted some stuff, which he since removed.

This is a nothing thing.

I don't think his play was above being sent down...also there is nothing wrong with playing big minutes in the AHL

Lol attitude problems? Saw it in his first training camp?

This is going to turn into the Huberdeau situation, isn't it? Getting bashed over and over again for something his agent did without his knowledge.

Interesting comment from Frank today on his DFO rundown. He thinks this years deadline is going to be pretty quiet/dull compared to what we’ve been seeing recently.

He cites the rise in the cap and expiring contracts will have GM’s sitting tight. Perhaps to resign their own FA’s? Thought it would be the opposite….
