I lucked out and got tires and rims for my kids vehicle for less than I would have paid for crappy steel rims alone. That was at Pick and Pull on 52 Street. Got two seasons out of the tires, the rims were factory originals.

The junk yards typically pull the good tires/wheels and have them for purchase(still, much better price) so you don't even need to hunt. I'd take a look. I have found decent tires on Kijiji, too.

Bro, rims and tires are the last thing you wanna cheap out on. Bargain bin wheels? That's straight-up dangerous, man.

I mean if you can get a matching set of 4 rather than mix and match, by all means. But personally I'd rather find something cheap on the classified ads vs search junkyards

Thanked for the use of Bell Ends

Knob Heads would also have been accepted.

I wouldn't recommend junk yard wheels unless you have some good luck and a bit of time to check. Trying to save money is a good thing, but IMO not if it's something that could potentially end up creating far bigger issues later on (especially potential safety concerns). A bad wheel could end up damaging your tire and you'd be out the cost you saved and more just on tires. That's not including the risk of a collision and the costs associated with that (monetary and non-monetary).

Kijiji or FB marketplace are your better bets. If cash is tight, maybe consider offering a trade or service in exchange for the wheels vs cash? Not all would be open to it, some might be, but you never know if you don't try.

TBH, if you don't want to spend the money on wheels, I think it makes more sense to just pay someone to pull off the current tires to put the winters tires on the current wheels for now and then wait till mid seasons or early spring when people are finally willing to just dump them for cheap to make space. That's what I'd do.

I tried selling steelies for almost half a year before I finally gave up at a pretty low bottom line and just gifted it to my mechanic to use on his vehicles for me for being great to me all these years.

Cost wise I think it's just incrementally more to swap the tires on the existing wheels than going with potentially sketchy steelies. And it doesn't come with the safety risks of rushing into a decision where you end up with sketchy steelies.

You don't need to get burned by them to be frustrated by them. So many of those posters are like passive aggressive Karens and Kens online, but too scared to be a real Karen or Ken in real life. The spamming rants are exhausting. I still stay in the group because there are good recommendations for deals at times that I have rushed out to get before those guys sweep it all, but I'm close to jumping ship.

Like I said before it's like old person trapped in voice mail 2.0 and then sprinkle in a little bit of mean girls popularity contest or loss porn (Look at my receipt!) stuff.

Sorta like...

I hate Facebook. Too many sellers won't post proper size or have any clue what they're selling. I've listed tires showing the size and picture of the size...people ask me if they'll fit their car and what the size is. Like read the add, plus the whole I'll take them and never show up.

The SUV endemic has made a lot of passenger cars have oversized wheels that really are not great for winter. This car is an appliance...I don't need 19 inch rims with low profile tire for Alberta winters...so it's like 350 a tire for my stock rim size and 240 for the alternate size. I'll try and find the alternate.

Luckily a couple folks here might have something I can use. As Fuzz noted...wreckers likely take good tires and wheels off first, but I still think it's worth inquiring there if I can't find the size I want used elsewhere.

What size are you looking for? I have some 215/45R18 all season's under my deck that only have about 15000kms on them, tried selling them for a bit but dealing with kijidiots was too much so they've just sat their all year

Pick n pull looks like they have 2 prices for tires, a higher one for ones they've picked, and lower for from the yard. I presume the ones they have grabbed were deemed worth the effort for them. The yard ones probably not as much. Sounds like you can return them within 3 days, so I'd have an install date ready in case one is a dud. You may not know it until it's spun on a balancer. Definetly don't grab anything with torn beads, old date codes, and sign it was driven flat(roughness inside on the side wall) and unusual wear(more wear inside or outside edges).

I don't want all seasons. Currently have Nokian allweather's, but would rather get a set of dedicated winter ones.

Looking for 225/50/R17 size for those as it's the alternate size that works for the vehicle.

Ever since I stopped trying to park close and started parking according to how easy it would be to LEAVE this kind of thing never happens to me anymore.

Low key mental health hack.. park so you can leave easy.
