You can still save a ton of money on certain items, but their auxiliary services are often worse than other places.

I got Costco tires for the first time (new car) and the entire process is such a hassle as a customer. Only doing this the first time to get them mounted and then I'm done.

Order the winter tires & rims - but on separate sites because the rims are outsourced and not actually Costco. Rims get shipped to my house, tires get shipped to the store. You book your appointment on a third, separate system after all of that but don't know when either is going to be shipped so can't really make an informed decision on when to book.

Tires show up at the store first, now they're asking me to either pick them up, schedule an earlier appointment (not possible), or they'll return them within 5ish business days.

Fine. So I go to the store, wait in line to pick them up and bring them home, and go back to waiting for the rims to arrive.
3/4 rims arrive at my house, eventually the 4th one does as well but it wouldn't have been within the 5 business day return window.
Now I'm storing 4 tires and 4 rims and I get to cart them all back to the store for my appointment to get them installed. Ridiculous.

In the end, you get a slightly better price than say, Cdn Tire or Kal Tire on the tires and mounting, but what a hassle.

There is only one Costco you should be waiting in line for gas....

For the curious, I checked before I left work this morning. Between 1030 yesterday (when I first saw reports of actual snow on the ground) and 0545 today (when I left work), there were 134 accidents reported to police.

Taza Costco at 7:45am on the way to work is a $10-$15 savings on premium fuel. No line, just cruise right through.

Any other time, not a chance in hell I'm fuelling up there.

I've also read that Costco gas contains a lot more ethanol than most other stations, and if this is true you arent even saving any money by going there.

The Balzac Costco always makes me shake my head. Lineups always backed up to the main road, but at most it's a 2-3 cent savings over the Petro-Can down the street with zero waiting. I just don't understand how people can value their own time so little

I really like Costco, but not enough to deal with having to actually go their and deal with the experience.

Haven't had a membership in years. Not worth the rise in blood pressure

I do same-day delivery (through the app) grocery shopping there. It's awesome. I rarely set foot inside the door.

How much does it cost? I think I looked into that a while back but the pricing was a huge premium on actual in store (per product then service charge) so now I just don't go there.

It's always cheaper in store vs online. There's easily a $50-150 premium on electronic delivery. But for bigger stuff like TV and appliances, that's way cheaper than hiring someone to help you drag it out of a physical location. I pay that for anything that I basically couldn't lift on my own.

For groceries, I don't think there's a fee, but I think there's a pretty high minimum. Some stuff online isn't in the warehouses though and honestly speaking, most of the online prices are higher, but reasonable vs the in warehouse price.

The online pricing difference for delivery vs in store for Superstore is far more egregious than Costco IMO.

EDIT: Ah, here it is.

https://www.costco.ca/CanadaGroceryDeliveryRedirect

$3 per unit doesn't seem bad at all if you don't meet the $75 minimum. The insta cart $35 isn't a high number, but having to be home for the delivery vs drop off at door would be a pain.

They also screwed up forcing a lugnut on the my tire stud that resulted in that lug not coming off after and me needing to replace the stud. Never had that happen in the 10 years I had my car and had that happen twice in the span of 2 years.

Depends on where one lives. For us in the large cities it's a hassle. My Daughter's friend in Medicine Hat just had winter tires put on her vehicle. Zero waiting and no problem getting in. They scheduled her in the day the tires arrived.

Yeah but that's only because they smuggle meth in the tires.

They added a 3rd gas pump to most of the lanes at the East Hills Costco and I find it's made a big difference to going at more busy times.. there's been times when I'm in the area for something else and notice there's no line for gas and will fill up where before there'd be a huge line.

But I usually just go at odd times when I'm doing something else and almost never have to wait.

Anyone ever been able to scab wheels out of a junk yard? Being one of like 5 people on this site with a sub 300k family income and kids to support..I'm tempted to scour the pick and pull with my own wrench and jack to see if I can get some winter rims for like $20 that look passable.
