I thought Miromanov was our 2nd best dman, largely because he did not do anything noticably bad and even during a rough 1st period I thought his pair was the best pair.

Loved seeing that pack mentality last night. Kadri’s quote last year that a pack of hungry hyenas can take down a lion pretty much sums up how this team can win games this year. Would be cool for the flames to embrace that… they should have some T-shirts made with some fire-born hyenas. lol. I’m sure there are some AI-handy people that can make something like that up.

I gotta say again, that Zary goal had me hoot and holler in a way I haven't in 5 years watching this team.

Tough play for Rooney, not a sportsman like play, but I think it was a clean hit, by the rules at least.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I don't think a boarding call would have been unreasonable.
Official NHL Boarding Rule Text (Rule 603)
“Boarding is the action where a player, pushes, trips, or body checks an opponent causing them to go dangerously into the boards. This includes: Accelerating through the check to a player who is in a vulnerable position, driving an opponent excessively into the boards with no focus on or intent to play the puck, or any check delivered for the purpose of punishment or intimidation that causes the opponent to go unnecessarily and excessively into the boards.”

Happy for Zary though, great game!

Actually almost scored 1min in on his first shift. Played well otherwise IMO.

Miller had the puck, and ran through a player who didn't have the puck. It was interference. It may have not been dirty, but he knew what he was doing.
I just wish Mantha landed that haymaker at the end to teach that little #### a lesson.

Hope Rooney is ok. Looked pretty bad. Was glad to see him able to be on his feet.
If he is injured for an extended period of time, I could see Morton getting a call up.

You're right, it could have been boarding, and it also could have been a charge. It was a boarder line play, and certainly not a sportsmanlike one.

What's even better is not a single goal highlight between T.O. and Bumville while they get to watch a mcdavid-esque highlight game winner from Zary as the play of the night.

Tremendous resilience from the Flames, and a great way to start the season - they stood up for each other, they didn't quit, and they fought back for the win. I liked everybody's effort, but shoutout to Mantha, who many fans wrote off before a single game was played.
Let's compare leadership shall we?
Flames fall behind 4-1 and lose a player to injury, in the first period, on the road. They fight back for the next 41 minutes and get a hard earned, gutsy win against a team that if very tough at home.
Oilers fall behind 2-0 in the first, and proceed to fold up their tent and go home. Oh wait - they were already at home! Did McDavid forget to yell at his team-mates in the 1st intermission?

I’d wager a fair bit that Huska didn’t even raise his voice in the intermission.

Very happy to see the young guys getting their opportunities. Not sure if we saw much of Zary or Posposil in OT last year so it’s awesome that they combined for the game winner last night. Also noticed that Honzek was getting ice time right to end of the game. Noticed him on the ice with 2-3 minutes left just before Backlund’s line came on.
It’s a fine line line between protecting young players and not giving them the opportunity to prove themselves. In previous years, it would be pretty common for guys like Klapka and Honzek to not get a shift past the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period in a game like that.

There was definitely an element of vulnerability near the boards, so boarding would have been a reasonable call.
For me though, it was very late, plus Rooney never played the puck., so I thought it should have been an interference penalty.
Also, when a guy gets injured like that, the refs often decide to slap on the penalty, even though they didn't call it live. But nope, nothing. Then they give the Nucks a PP out of the scrum - absolutely horrible sequence of calls.
And I thought that had a very large bearing on the resulting 4-1 1st period score.
