Having watched Schwidnt closely, I think his NHL upside is around a Kevin Rooney. Hurts the C depth for sure though at the AHL level.

All it takes is for one team to like a player and have a need at a certain position. Other than Bourque's Twin, nobody had Schwindt being claimed (that I saw anyway). That's the danger of waivers.

The Flames and Wranglers are both going to be incredibly interesting to watch:
  • Goaltending battle on both teams
  • Honzek, Klapka and Coronato on the Flames
  • Pelletier rebound?
  • Brzustevicz looked great at camp - what will he do in the AHL?
Lots of other story lines of course, but these are the main ones I will be paying closer attention to. Just really happy that Pelletier survived on the Flames.

Do the Flames retain his rights beyond July 1st even if Lipinski doesn't agree to sign an offered contract from the Flames?

As a CHL draft pick, he must be signed before June 1, 2025 or he will re-enter the draft.

So what’s the pulse. I know a lot of people were worried about losing Pelletier. But looks like Schwindt was the belle of the ball.

Anyone concerned with the loss?

Good opportunity for Schwindt. Better than toiling away on the wranglers

I don't see it as a huge loss. Rooney is here and Morton is an injury replacement that seemed pretty even, if not better than Schwindt. My opinion anyway.

Except Grimaldi is a weird religious nut whose views led to his fall in the draft.

He might have been the next Gretzky if only he'd offered a bit more praise to God.

He might have made for a good 4th line C of the future. Good size and right-handed. Backlund will be retiring soon (or traded) and the Flames are currently low on prospects at that position.

He should have dug in. Right now!

Hopefully Pelletier goes down to the AHL and plays great and forces a call-up and finishes the season in Calgary. Then we can look back and be relieved he wasn't picked up in waivers.

Schwindt has 4th line center upside so no loss there.

I’m pretty sure the team didn’t want to lose any of the three who were on waivers yesterday
This is a good problem to have

Schwindt wasn't on anyone's radar on this forum. Funny how things go. Pelts is a full-time farm hand IMO.

Love how Conroy is handling this. Not knocking the player for not having a great camp. "I need him to be the best player in the AHL", is very positive and motivating, even if it doesn't mean anything. No reason to shatter his confidence. Lots of other coaches would have taken a stab at him on the way down.

I’m not shocked Schwindt was claimed. He’s always looked competent in a 4th line role whenever he was called up. He just wasn’t going to be in a bigger role.

According to Puckpedia, Vegas now has 24 players on their active roster (14 forwards, 8 defensement, and 2 goalies). The only play that can be sent down without waivers is Holtz, who certainly won't be sent down.

You have to think that they will be sending a forward on waivers before the season starts. I would have to think it will be one of Pearson, Schwindt, or Lavoie. I didn't pay much attention to their camp, but maybe Olofsson as well.

My hunch is that they wanted a depth center and claimed both Schwindt and Lavoie, but didn't think they would get both. I wouldn't be shocked to see one of them back on waivers right away.
