I bet you Conroy realizes now he added way too many defensemen between last year and today, via waivers, trades, etc.

9 goalies on waivers today. Doubtful that Cooley gets claimed and Twitter user cmpdave who has broke info before said that Cooley's camp does not expect to get claimed and the 2nd year on his contract was to help dissuade a waivers claim
*edit AC beat me to it

A day when almost 70 players are put on waivers seems like the right day.

I think part of having too many defence is that the younger players performed better than expected. So, they didn’t need as many veterans and we can probably expect a few to be cleared out as the season moves along.

not sure where this ends up for the guy, but he he has done well in the AHL (which is often necessary but not sufficient to succeed in the NHL- see...well lots--Phillips, Czarnik etc etc)

Which means nothing in regards to staying in the NHL or not.
Weird flex by that guy to include it as a "reason".

Jakob Pelletier is small, not especially fast, and not overly skilled.
In a summer where we have a dozen players making noteworthy impressions in prospect camp, Penticton and pre season, Pelletier continued to do very little to distinguish himself.
This is par for the course with Pelletier. Since he was drafted in 2019, what is your signature Jakub Pelletier moment?
He has 4 goals in 37 games.
Those are the numbers of someone who has never, to my eyes, looked dangerous at the NHL level.
It’s not personal. He seems like a great kid.
He’s not an NHLer - he’s too small to be a grinder and he’s not skilled enough for the top 6.
It is what it is.

Even if Pelletier is claimed does anyone really think he'll stick? we could claim him back later.

Forgot about cooley's second year.
Pretty safe waive. And if he goes anywhere it's probably as a placeholder and he winds up back on waivers later.

I don't see him Byron-ing anywhere.
He's working his way back from a year of mending from injuries. At best he doesn't look out of place in someone's bottom six, and we already have several guys that fit that description.

It’s important to remember this, if he’s claimed, he needs to stay on the NHL roster.
He wasn’t good enough here.

A question to anyone who has a better handle on the other teams than I do... - Which teams have roster holes that Pelletier or Cooley could fill?
- Are there any other players on waivers today who could better fill those holes?

No, he doesn't. He just needs to be waived again to be sent down.

Washington and the two Florida teams are the only ones that jump out as being able to use a player like Pelletier.

Sorry, when you said he "needs to stay on the NHL" roster I didn't realize you actually meant "no he doesn't need to, but he does need to be waived again to be sent down."

If he is waived again, then the Flames can make the claim and put him directly on the wranglers.

Why is no one up in arms about Schwindt going on waivers or Cooley. I see them as being better fits than Pelletier. Especially Cooley with our goalie situation. We have a ton of young wingers and defensemen
We need centers and potentially a goalie.
