He missed a good chunk of last season (first year of a two-year contract with the Caps) due to a shoulder injury. Late in the season, he entered the Player Assistance Program. All in all, he only played in 24 games last season.
With a $2 million cap hit, he probably doesn't get claimed.

Ludvig in Pittsburgh might have lost a step, with a couple of nasty injuries last season. Seemed like the kind of guy that you would pair with an all-offense defenseman to keep everyone honest. Too bad.

I don't love making the decision on the short sample of training camp.
Figure out a way to keep Pelletier and if he doesn't impress after 10 games then make the decision.
