So are we signing this guy or not? I still kinda feel like the no-goods up North are going to swoop in and try snag him back.

Yeah, I've been thinking this as well from the time the Flames announced he'd be going to Flames camp. He's now had a good camp and has shown he can still play. Won't be expensive and the Oilers could 'stick it to the Flames', so definitely can see them doing that and from Barrie's perspective, it's a much better situation feeding pucks to 97 and 29 on their PP.

I thought his time with the Oilers didn't end on good terms? Could be wrong.

In the interview I saw after he was traded he looked pretty salty.

I don't think they are interested in him until he commits a crime.

Plus, considering the d-men up there other than ekholm and cross-eye, he'd instantly be the #3 defensemen up there and play over 20 minutes a game..

Stick it to the Flames by stealing their 33 year old 7th defenseman

Does Edmonton even have cap space? He wants a better deal than the min.

We will sign him 1 year 1.5M.

Am I the only one that thought that Barrie looked a bit slow out there? I'll be fine with him as the 7th/8th D.

I definitely don't want to see him in the top 6, and I'd rather we called up a prospect if any of the top 6 is out for any length of time. I'd rather see what we have in: Solo, Poirier, Grushnikov, and Kuznetsov before they all become waiver eligible next year.

I assume our D is going to be:
Bahl - Andersson
Weegar - Miromanov
Bean - Pachal
Hanley, Barrie

There were youngsters as good as him. Maybe our rebuild includes developing 33 year olds??

You don't want those youngsters playing 6 minutes a night I assume.

You have been repeating the same thing in every thread.

You don't develop young players especially the type we have playing 3rd pairing minutes and watching others play on the PP. They need to play and get touches.

It is a little irksome that our projected regular roster leaves very little room for these kids knocking on the door.

For example I like Lomberg but I'm not sure we need him for what phase this team is in. I'd prefer to have an extra audition slot and see more of our prospects at this level.

The team has come a long ways in it's approach from where it was but still can't help but fill out roster spots with vet signings instead of leaving them for the young talent were developing.

Exactly this. The last thing we need is another Wotherspoon example where the guy gets stapled to the bench for the entire game after making a bad play.

You're right, I don't. I thought that even the 6th D would be looking at 13-15 mins.

That's some heavy lifting for the first 2 pairings. I don't see Weegar and Andersson playing ~28mins a night, but I could be wrong.

Most of these guys are top 6 players, and top 4dmen with offensive potential. They need PP time, they need 5v5 time. They wont get that playing behind Weegar, Andersson, Sharngonvich, Kuzmenko etc. No sense having them sit and play 6 minutes when they can go down and play lots. It's not how you develop player.

Some fans care way too much about the opening night roster. Frankly I really like the approach where you start some of these kids in the minors and opportunities on the big club will come along with injuries and trades. An extra half season in the AHL can really help development so when they come up next, they stay up.

The arc of development is way more important than what happens this coming Monday.

Bouchard is the PP defenseman

As no good as they are, Barrie without PP time can not be very interesting to anyone
