Shesterkin is the best goalie on the planet.
I don't think they have anywhere near equal value.

Like Oilers fans and media, Leafs supporters also think that every other team in the league wants to trade their best players for whoever they themselves are trying to get rid of.

And even if Marner was worth Shesterkin... why would the Rangers trade their relatively young superstar goalie? It's not like they have someone who can come in and play in his stead. Their next best guy is a 38 year old Jonathan Quick.

Not that I think the trade would or should happen, but Shesterkin is a year older than Marner and is also UFA next summer. He wants to break the bank, and while the Rangers should be able to, one never knows.

I'm not sure it's about precisely predicting where that team's pick will be in three years but an unprotected pick has more value than a protected pick because it could fall in the theoretical protected zone.

I've seen the rationale for them possibly wanting Andersson is because they're loaded on the left side but lacking in quality RH Dmen.

Yeah, that's the most confusing part to me; even if the values were even (and they're definitely not), there's noone to step into Shesterkin's spot. The Rangers are in a window where they could potentially win a cup, and they're going to trade their superstar goalie for a one dimensional winger because...reasons.

So who slides down to the bottom pair? Byram? Jokiharju? I’ve also read if therebb be is an issue with the Sabres D, it’s that they aren’t physical enough. If that’s true, not sure taking Clifton out the lineup makes sense. Is a LHD coming back? Andersson for Byram? Don’t think that makes sense from a Sabres perspective. Anderson has two years left. Byram’s 23 with years of control left.
Dahlin, Power, Samuelson all locked up and I’d be a bit surprised if Byram isn’t in their long term plans. Where does Anderson fit?
Not only where does Anderson fit but why? Do the Sabres need to upgrade their D? Wouldn’t they be better off addressing positions of need?

Demko and a 1st for Swayman.
Swayman signs a 8 year extension with a 9M AAV and turns into their Huberdeau.

I think you can calculate some reasonable odds based on the age of a team's core and the state of their prospect pool. Just like there are some teams you can reasonably assume will be contender.
It's a gamble for sure, but if I had to bet, teams like Washington and Pittsburgh for example will be drafting earlier in 2027 than they will be in 2025.

Friedman says the best offer from the Bruins was probably $60-62 million over 8 years. Speculation is rampant that Swayman will ask for a trade.
